oneredtrim 148
A bunch of flowers wrapped around a Trafford scarf was left in the memorial garden @ the Etihad late yesterday afternoon, just a simple note on them 'Best Goalkeeper ever, Rip, The Stretford End'....nice touch.
Malt 379
People talk about players being 'legends' of the game all to easily these days IMO, but an ex enemy prisoner of war who refused to be repatriated and turned professional footballer in the country he fought against really is the stuff of legend. That's enough to qualify him as a legend all by itself, without finishing a match with the magnitude of an FA cup final with a broken neck like he did also..

Astanley 11,678
When I was a kid playing footy , if I moaned about being hurt My old fella used to shout " bert Trautmen played with a brocken neck , Gerry Byrne played with a broken collar bone , GET ON WITH IT " What am I going to shout to my grandson ? Ronaldo played with quite a nasty looking bruise Suarez played on with a broken finger nail ? Different breed the older generation . rip Bert
