The 'challenge' is a little different each week, but it is generally to feed a family of 4 for a week between £50 and £80. One Mum in the last series spent £35 a week on chocolate for herself!

When you consider that, on average, we throw away around 1/3 of all the food we buy, it's no wonder people are so frivolous with their money - I mean if even food has become a disposable item.........

Jesus the world really has gone to shit if it has become a 'challenge' to feed you family on 80 quid a week :D

I bet they arent even including washing up power etc

For the families on the programme it's a challenge, because they spend up to £300 a week and throw a lot of it away. For me and Mrs.B, £80 a week would be a spending increase, that's why we laugh when they say it can't be done!

You've clearly stolen my shopping list, but those cheap tea bags are truly sickening. We always but decent ones (when they're on special of course. We buy fresh fruit and veg from the market twice as week and there's a good butcher there too! "Live according to your means" is probably the best advice there is!!

I find supermarkets a rip off.

Sure the value stuff is cheap but only because your average butcher or grocer couldn't get away with selling that stuff.

We buy our veg from the grocer, meat from the butcher but we eat less and try to waste nothing.

I like to make a stock from a ham shank or chicken and make soup which can provide loads of lunch time meals for nothing. We avoid buying anything from a packet as well
