Ideation 8,217
Dogs looking well. Horses are fecking lethal, cows are worse. Doesn't take much for you to have a dead dog on your hands. I try to stay well clear. . . . and hate ferreting, lamping etc around them. Sometimes it's unavoidable as some of my permissions are horse paddocks etc. Some are chilled enough, some are just b*****ds. my Nancy would disagree, she's quite fond of our cows Which is fantastic. . . . . until you meet a herd of young, angry bullocks Just me, lamping etc around flighty cows is a pain in the arse. I'm not talking about the dog chasing the cows, rather the cows chasing the dog . . . . . or me Quote Link to post

ghostie 76
dont look anything like a horse nice pics I dunno, pop a mini saddle and some midget jockey on her and I think she'd win a race or two trying to break her to horses again, she was great with them till she learned to chase them... seeing them gallop past every 2 minutes hopefully did her good! I've got horses and ponies and my young lurcher loves them but chases them too, always found it fun until he got booted in the ribs by one of the ponies the other week! But so far he hasn't tried to get involved with them since! Your dog is really nice btw. mate of mines dog got a swift kick from a horse, put an end to him unfortunately,i run my bitch through a few paddocks but the owners have dogs and they dont take lot notice of my bitch yeah its worrying, mine was really chilled with horses in the field and would be loose around them as a youngster, but one day a new horse joined the paddock of 3 young racehorses and they started going up and down the fence line. Nancy decided then that they're fun to race with, lucky she didn't kill herself! she's ok with horses in stables or standing quietly but I can't trust her with them in the field now cos once they start messing about she joins in... shame as I work with horses and ride them a lot! For me it's crucial for my dog to be good around horses as my life revolves around them and it has been terrifying watching him racing across the field upsides my big thoroughbred! Hopefully the kick did knock some sense into him quite literally! He's been hacking with me a couple of times as a pup and was good on the whole, trotting and cantering next to me but there was a bit of hock chewing! Quote Link to post
Mick C. 229
Get him mad for rabbit and he should lay off. Mine usually crack when they are pushed into survival mode You just never no whats going to happen . Many a good dog been killed by horses and cattle alike. Nice looking dog very similar to a bitch I used to work. Any idea of the breeding? Quote Link to post
Simoman 110
I am always on my guard around livestock. Had cows push my dog over a dry stone wall to a 10ft drop one night, also a friends terrier was kicked to death by a horse...........Nice dog by the way Quote Link to post

Mick C. 229
I personally find that when a dogs hunting he drops off on the other distractions. My dogs will have a little nip at bullocks when pushed to far I think its the fear factor kicking in I Try to avoid them if possible Think there was a bit of lab and staffy in the mix of the bitch I worked Quote Link to post

But also I have a friend with a grey/whippet/beddy/bull hybrid that looks very similar. Quote Link to post
