Tunnel Traps

Recommended Posts

Hello there

Does anybody out there in the UK that is use tunnel traps when ferreting. Are they home made or can you buy them from anywhere.

Know about the rabbit friendly ones from foxshot. Are there any other makes that you know of

Regards Roger

WE use them a fair bit Roger,...been using them since the 1960's,...'Young & Son's' days,...

The modern ones seem a mite flimsy ,.and although they catch well enough when placed in the bolt holes,.if you accidentally step on one,...its Frisbee time,...:laugh:

All the best,...CHALKWARREN....... :drink:

Wow, they look well made. They look that they took sometime to make. They look as if there is a lot of welding involved in making them.

WELL LADS ,

IAM ALL FOR LOOKING FORWARD....... AND .......TRYING NEW DESIGNS ETC ..............

HOWEVER ,.......... THERE SHORT COMINGS ARE OBVIOUS FOR THE NORMAL LAD OUT FERRETING

IVE BEEN PREACHED TOO ABOUT THESE TRAPS FROM A GUY THAT LOVES THEM ............. TOLD ME IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO NET A THORN HEDGE PROPERLY DUE TO THE THORNS SNAGGING THE NETS , BLAH , BLAH , BLAH  ............

BULLSHIT ......., IVE FERRETTED RAILWAY BANKS ,WASTE LAND , HEDGES, AND WOODLAND AREAS SINCE THE AGE OF TEN ON MY LONESOME WITH NETS OF ALL DISCRIPTIONS , YET ....... I CANNOT REMEMBER ONE INSTANCE WHERE A NET SNAGGED WHEN PROPERLY SET !

THE ONLY PLUS FOR THEM I CAN SEE ............ IS THAT THEY MIGHT BE AN ADVANTAGE FOR A SINGLE HANDED FERRETTER WORKING A HUGE HEDGE WARREN .......... BUT PERSONALLY I WOULD SAVE THEM SPOTS FOR DAYS WITH HELP PRESENT .......

ME ? ........... WELL I WILL STICK TO A NICE WELL MADE NET

We its the same old story of whatever works for you.

I have yet to see a purse net catch more than one rabbit at a time. The tunnel traps can be set in well used holes, i have often had three or four rabbits bolt at the same time and it helps aid with catches. They can be set in vegitation to help stop hole hopping and stop ferrets on road side hedges. When you are using a lot of ferrets they hold ferrets so you can pick them up quickly.

Its worth having a few when working alone. That is for sure. Down side is that they are bulky and not that handy when you are just mooching.

YEP RO ,

I CAN SEE AND KNOW THE UPSIDE OF THE TRAPS ............... BUT FOR ME ............ THE CONS FAR OUTWEIGH PROS

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE STATE OF SOMEONE HUMPING THEM BABYS UP THE HILLS I FREQUENT :D ,

ITS A SAD FACT FOR A FELLA WHO LOVES /IS USED TO LONE HUNTING ....... BUT SOMETIMES ....... A PARTNER IS CALLED FOR ..... SOMETHING I WOULD RATHER PUT UP WITH THAN USE THE TRAPS ...........

ALL THE BEST

I must admit; If anyone had ever asked me about such things, off the cuff I'd have surmised that they were something dreamed up from an armchair and sold to naive beginners. Put simply? I'd never have believed they'd even work! Well, the above's got me stuffing my own unspoken words right down my throat, hasn't it?! Humble pie for Ditch tonight!

Funny really, because I have an old Aurouze catalogue here ~ they were (still are to some degree) the French eqivellant of our own Youngs. They were the boys for all ye traps, nets and sundries. And, as I remember it, they actually offered such devises. They also had a range of weird things to allow bun's Out of their buries, then stop them getting back in again. Thus keeping them out there to be shot.

Oh f*ck it. Sit tight while I clear the fast accumulating junk off the top of my Scanner and I'll show ye look .....

And yes, H&J; They really are quite just that simple. One way flaps. Would ye believe it, eh?

Nice link :clapper:

Another advantage of the tunnel traps is they catch really young rabbits during the spring time. This reduces the number of purse nets being lifted of the holes by the little ones. Helps with clearup operations.
