If the plug is not loose it sounds like the hard rubber flanged connector that joins the carb to the block. These tend to hairline split on most makes of quads. I have had it happen twice to my Kodiak.

When cold it splutters and farts but once up to temp and the rubber warms up it seals the crack.

 

IF.... It is that joint. Be prepared to put your hand in your pocket. They are a non stock item and will set you back around a ton and half. For the Kodiak. Cheaper for Hondas.

Fortunate for myself I found mine second hand. But the above price was quoted by Colin apple yards motorcycles and another bike shop. A third didn't even want to know.

 

But that's the part.
