Gaz_1989 9,539
Alright folks, Basically I'm looking to get a good camera for a bit of all round use but mainly for when I'm out with the dogs. I don't know much about them so what's a good starting camera for taking some good photos? I've got a standard digital camera at the moment. 10mp I think it is. But to be fair it isn't much better than the camera on my phone. I'm assuming SLR is the way to go? Can anyone recommend a good camera under £500? Thanks. Gaz.
paulus 26
canon dslr 400 or 450d you should be able to get one with a 70-300mm lense for under 300 quid
lifelong cumbrian 1,829
Google Ken Rockwell mate, he is a pro in America that does loads of honest reviews. Personally I don't think there is any need to go above 12.5mp and the quality of lens is probably more important than the camera. He likes Nikons best, when you read his reviews have a look on Amazon they have some excellent deals on there or ebay. I buy from ebay and personally never had a problem. ATB. j1985 1,984
I and a few others I know found the Nikons better to get on with than the Canons! Iv used the Sony ones too, very basic and easy to use. Go on eBay and look for deals with lenses like what Paulus said, but try get a good make of lense as cheap lenses are cheap for a reason!! I had a sigma which when compared to a similar lenses from canon etc the difference was huge.
johnny boy68 11,726
I got a Canon 350 eos with 18-55mm and 28-210mm lenses for £70, it takes some decent shots.
baw 4,360
Canon is best for choice of lenses, Nikon takes a more realistic truer picture colour wise. I'm a Nikon man. Go on a site called dprieview.com, you can list upto 4 cameras side by side and it gives you everything. It also gives you good advice on how to work a camera, breaking down what ISO, white balance, aperture etc all do.
