What Is Wrong With My Ferrets Eyes.

Shouldn't really use hay or straw. Its poor bedding material in that it harbours parasites, causes irritation (such as dust inhalation, bits getting caught in their eyes etc.), and generally just should never be used. Use a dust reduced wood shaving. Even if this doesn't solve the eye problem, it will definitely help with your ferrets general health.

what do you use for bedding ?
I use shavings. Bulk buy them, or get them for free if you can. Mine cost about 5 quid and last months. They're big horse shavings bails. They good value for money.

How long was he away a week ?. i dont think the jills been ready and turning and biting him . my hob was the same with the older jills and that was how they put him off

Yep! my jills do the same, my old hob is over 5 now and struggles to lay all of my jills, the worst is a young jill that's not had a litter, I've just bought a younger hob, and he's restored order

Same here my old hob used to sniff the jills and had scabs all summer round his eyes , the young hob just grabs them and has never had a scab ,still gets his end away just no so suttle :laugh::laugh:

Don't lend out ferrets! I know it is nice to help others out, but unless you are absolutely sure of the hygiene, and health of the jills he goes to he could pick up all sorts of problems.

We've used straw since the year dot. Never had a problem. But use barley straw, not wheat, as it contains much less dust and irritants. Diamataceous Earth is excellent and non toxic: kills mites and fleas by dehydrating them as the tiny particles get under the scales of insects with exoskeletons and makes them lose their body fluids :victory:

he is owned by 3 of us that contributed to his op to keep costs down. all 3 of us keep our ferrets well, but one of us lent him out to all and sundry lol. sam with straw never had a problem. my sandy jill is rough with, i think its an infection caused through a nick or bite, ive seen that little bitch clamped to his face a few times lol.
