Sfs Hw97Kt .177 Power Advice

Recommended Posts

hi lads

i have a sfs hw97kt .177 i have had it for about 3 months now i bought a chrono not long after a chrono pro digital

i have been checking the power levels tony set it at about 11fpe its now crept upto 11.8 to 11.9 with falcon accuracy plus

and 11.6 with jsb exacts.i phoned tony and after a chat he said just leave it but after reading some more threads tonight on the 97

im now thinking this is to high and the gun could be even better if i get the power reduced,i use the rifle for hft and i have my first permission as well

i have no experience in stripping air rifles and would not want to damage or mess up any of tonys work.

i would like the rifle around 10.5fpe

can any of you guys advise me on what to do

cheers

David

Try and Google a how to strip a HW97KT mate. I watched it done and its really easy. If you can get the spring out you could send it through the post to one of the members on here to get a coil removed or remove one yourself. I know DavyT63 may be able to help you if you ask him. He as done 3 of my rifles now by removing a coil. To get the rifle shooting at its best for hunting and HFT together you would be best getting it set around 10 FPE to 10.5 max mate.

there you go mate, absolute piece of cake if you can use a couple of screwdriver and a 13mm spanner and a 3mm punch.

take it a step at a time and keep pausing the video mate. cant really go wrong. I had a couple of hairy moments first time I did it but I was just nervous didn't want to nacker my expensive rifle.. but really you wont go wrong if your carefull and follow this vid.

to get the spring out you don't actually need to remove the cocking lever or piston.

remove the stock screws and trigger guard screws,

remove trigger guard and separate stock from action,

remove large bolt next to trigger unit with 13mm spanner,

remove trigger unit by punching out 2 pins, (make sure you don't lose the safety catch as it may fly out)

unscrew the end block off the rifle (might need a big spanner in a rag and a hammer to get it loose enough to unscrew by hand)

when its nearly out make sure to keep a good grip as it may pop out with a bit of force, as its under tension from the spring. you won't need a spring compressor.

after this the spring will just slide in and out of the piston

hope this helps mate

Thanks for the reply lads.

I have a totally standard hw97k I might strip that first for practice before I try my pride and joy.

Once I get the spring out how do I cut it down .where do I cut .I have read about you must finish of the spring ends and polish them.

What does this mean in what way do you finish them.

Or do you heat the spring and crush the coil .do I have to relube the spring.

Im just a bit worried I ruin tonys work.
