Outlaw Pete 2,224
Took that little bugger a few days to finally go into my Potter Trap. I strongly suspect he's the one I caught months ago. The day I'd just used up my very last A ring! That was so funny, looking back! I'd had this gorgeous, male chaffie edging around my trap all day. I was after sparrows. Getting a procession of tits. Ringed the umpteenth great tit ~ my last A ring. (Sparrows take B's). Then, two minutes later, the chaffie popped in! I'm so distraught, I've rung my Trainer ~ on the phone, you understand! And so, there's me, pacing around the compound, this bloody bird in my hand, as I wail to my boss that I have no rings left. What can I do?! He nearly pissed himself laughing at my anguish. The f**ker! Of course, he managed to gasp out what I really Knew but, just didn't want to accept! Nothing for it but to let him go. No point is measuring and weighing a bird we'd never be able to identify again. So, I opened my hand. Like I say; I reckon this one was the same bird. Pick him up again, later. Get him in the bosses mist net and see how he's doing

fireman 11,570
I have a pair of chaffies and the hen is down on a single egg,she built and laid in her first nest but then smashed the lot up and so far she's sitting nice and tight in this one and i'm leaving her the f alone ,here's a pic of the cock i have that i took last year.A real sound of the countryside the chaffie song and i for one like it as much as the other finches as it goes.
Outlaw Pete 2,224
Pip; Mention of Greenfinches reminds me that we're taught to give them especially particular handling. They're easily prone to injury in the hand. I wonder what the aviary lads hear think of the issue? Paulus; That bird needs ringing Fact is, I can't look at a bird without feeling the need to ring it! Fireman; That cock bird's a real credit to you and Aviculture ~ done properly ~ as a whole!

Outlaw Pete 2,224
Pied Wagtail? One of my favourite birds I've rung them too. Delightfully calm and confiding little things, in the hand. Really, seriously endearing

Really, seriously endearing when i was a kid they use to nest in the bearing mechanisms of the piss whips, 4 arms that rotated depositing urine onto a gravel filtration bed down the local sewerage works. we would find them when we were liberating mercury. the bearings were floated on it

Fireman; That cock bird's a real credit to you and Aviculture ~ done properly ~ as a whole! Not heard of that OP about the greenies although i did have a cock get lightly caught in a safety porch door and keel over last year,a belting cock who was a grand father to his chicks .So delicate they may well be but the only time i ever handle my birds is once as a chick and then when i split them up into breeding pairs and at this time i'll trim nails and have a good look over for mite and other ailments,so maybe once or twice a year at most for some, some are never handled. so can't really comment on fragility of different types of birds. It's a bit more over grown these days but here's the flight the chaffies are in OP and we shouldn't keep animals if we can't do whats best for them.
