baw 4,360
I have the le chameau chasseur and the hunter balmoral sovereign mate both about £300 a pair and I wear my lowa hunter extreme Gtx everyday I like my wellies for some days and the le chams are used but the hunters are nearly brand new, I'd go for good hi top boots over wellies anydaySpot on post, deer tex is pretty good kit just make sure you go for the lighter weight version of whatever has it as deer hunter stuff can be a bit warmWhen it comes to kit, always buy the best your budget will allow Away man, what for, to get covered in shit and mud, ripped with barbed wire? I've had expensive wellies ruined by the sole being punctured off barbed wire. Forget the price, go for comfort and wearability.Be out on the hill at 2 in the morning with a fair walk in ffront of you and a blizzard come in, then you will realise the value of good quality kitAll these " my rigger boots, trackies and DPM jacket" merchants will be crying like babies lamping fom the back of a landy on a January night....... Good kit will let you hunt on when others have had to retire.........it's a no brainer IMHO A Londoner telling someone who lives in the highlands what a snow blizzard is like up a hill, only on THL a snow blizzard up a hill at 2am lamping, behave wilf. Your hills must be no more than mounds mate cos anytime I'm out lamping NO MATTER the weather the biggest problem isn't the cold, its f*****g sweating you walk several miles up and down hills carrying lamp, battery, catch and your f*****g glad of a blizzard lol. The most important thing is comfort. Thermal vest, T shirt and any non noisy waterproof top/jacket will do. I've seen us out in fleeces that's been washed in that wash on waterproof stuff in all weathers, not a problem. Decent comfy waterproof boot, good socks, regatta etc, jogging bottoms for comfort with cotton waterproof over trousers and pair of gaitors, job done, dry and roasting toasting. Now if you said ferreting in sleet or on a thaw, now that's f*****g cold. I've seen me having to wear gloves southern softies alright bear grylls layers and breathable clothing, job done

baw 4,360
So do I mate more so incase something happens like dog gets injured etc. it's just a breathable fold away cagool I use out on the kayak. I've seen me even taking my Tammy off out lamping to let my head cool lol. As long as your moving you'll not be cold. If you think of it this way, the worst waterproof clothing today is probably better than the best was 20 years ago and everyone raved about it then lol. Obviously cheap shit that isn't breathable is no good but no need for all this expensive stuff to go lamping of all things.
Lab 10,979
Canny see passed Muck Boots now.....had all the fancy dear wellies and they are no more comfortable or warmer than the mucks. And at 4 tiomes the price you could get a new pair of mucks every year for the same price. As for waterproof trousers its far easier to go for a light cheap pair....its guarenteed if you buy expensive your catching them on the first fence..buy cheap and you never seem to do, but if you do who gives a feck... sikastag_1 689
Mine are nothing like a riding boot. I wore my old le chams with zips everyday, feeding, working, beating, lamping the lot and they held up fine few years out them. its lamping no rock climbing you walk and they are designed for walking lol. You could wear them for 4 seasons or 4 minutes, if somebody' stand on a nail or rips them on a fence then that ain't the wellies fault is it lol. Like iv said I prefer my high boots but wellies are a must have aswell. Edited June 18, 2013 by grant_c

I'm sure they have lasted you years mate but like I say, a zip ain't a clever idea in a Wellington, they tend to jam, zips that is. An icy muddy zip, not for me but glad you like them
sikastag_1 689
Iv wore them all over mate if you walk about with the zip down and don't wash it out it will jam but if you zip it right up and wear them like that they are sound
