How Many Coils Do I Need To Remove..

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

as you may or may not know I recently fitted a vmach kit to my hw97kt .177, 26 mm piston using none of the washers supplied, just the spring and tophat..

after 30 pellets fired after installing the kit using

unweighed,washed and lubed pelets I shot a 20shot string -->

lowest 10.52 ftlb 751 fps

highest 11.49 ftlb 785 fps

spead almost 1 ftlb and 34 fps

now after 1500 shots fired using the same pellets from the same tin with the same chrono etc

lowest 11.56 ftlb 787 fps

highest 11.96 ftlb 801 fps

spread 0.40 ftlb and 14 fps

pellets used were jsb exact "8.44" 4.52 washed and lubed with wd40, but not weighed..

14 fps is ok I suppose and im not too bothered about it the gun is nice to shoot and very accurate so all is good.. apart from the power!

how many coils will I need to remove from the spring to get it to about 9.5 - 10 FT LB using these pellets, to make sure it will stay legal no matter what pellet is used..

im not sure how many coils the spring has but its a 'standard' vmach .177 mainspring for hw97....

any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks in advance

I would say just 1 coil Skot and not more.

really?! only one..? I thought it would need more than that to get down to 9-10 FPE

I was thinking about PM'ing Davy and asking if he would do it for me, if I post him my spring, after watching his excellent vid he did the other week :tongue2:

I don't have access to a grinder or a blowtorch or anything like that so someone else will be doing it for me haha

of course I will pay for their services, that should go without saying, im not a freeloader

so 1 coil will drop it from 11.8 to 10 ?!

seriously I would have thought it would be more than one coil!

il pm you davy and wel sort sumat out mate, thanks :signthankspin:

hi Skot

i can take two off if you like, but only if you have some pre load washers

remember i have to compress the spring as well,so that's like removing more of the coil.

if you take 1.5 to 2 off that will be fine I have 4 or 5 preload washers to slightly up the power if it goes below 9 ftlb

thanks again davy
