the linkage can give problems on them mate, take out the councel, which is the surround over the gearbox and you can see if the tranfer stick is doing its job,if not use a large screwdriver to shift the linkage back to high range ,hope this helps,

there should be a certain amount of play in linkage, but there lies a problem, how much play, thats why you have to try move the shift by hand with srewdriver,to determine thats its in the linkage and not the tranfer box, whats it you have, defender or disco

Chances of being seized link.

Remove centre console and grease it all up. The links will be bolted together. Make sure the bolts are tight aswell even replace the normsl nuts with nylocks to stop them 'dancing' free again

Removing the console is a bit bad head though. You will have to drill out some rivets and replace with screws....

which diff seizes up f?

to see if its in diff lock try jacking a wheel on one side and see if you can spin the wheels , you shouldnt be able to ..

if it is check all round the linkage for any thing jamming it or extremely loose try moving the linkage with a screw driver if it still wont come out ,

try reversing and going forward it might be stuck in due to diff wind up

Got truck jacked it up on one side and wheel will turn a bit both ways but not full revolution. Had console out and linkage at the bottom seems very sloppy seems like a lot of play on the bar that joins the linkage to the transfer box, what do you reckon it will cost for new linkage before I go for transfer box.

did you try getting it out of diff lock with a screw driver??

You can push the lever on top of the box over by hand. The linkage doesn't seem to be able to pull it over far enough. Like said can only turn the wheel a bit left and right or would expect to turn a full turn.

You need to try flicking it out of difflock with the screwdriver , that way it will tell you wether it is the linkage at fault (it will come out of difflock) or the transfer box (won't come out of difflock) at fault
