BenjaminCadd 109
Not been on for a while, and a few weeks ago i had a word with Phil and we both came to the same conclusion although the SFS HW97 is deadly accurate he missed his Prosort and i missed my Tx200 and I fancied looking into getting another AA springer, over the past few weeks the HW97 has been put through its paces hammering the Rats on the farm, as now the Cattle have been turned out the feed bunkers are empty so you can see the rats scurrying around looking for scraps, the HW97 has proved itself to be a work horse sat in the loader most days for opportunity shots, but i decided it was time for another springier the HW will stay at the farm as the work horse and the Prosport will stay at home as im looking into getting into HFT, i had a TX200 before and loved it so the plan was to get another one or maybe even a PCP but upon going into the shop "Otmoors" the prosport caught my eye, it was beautifully balanced and looked even better so i decided to dent (less of a dent more of a write off!) the wallet and go for a Prosport with a walnut stock. Got home and the first shot.... wow it put just as much of a grin on my face as when i shot the SFS 97 for the first time, too early to comment yet as its only had around 20 pellets through it Zeroing in, but will be interesting to see the differences between the two rifles. zini 1,939
Nice one mate. You have made a great choice there with the Pro Sport. Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,589
I love the looks and performance of both these rifles. Maybe the stock on the HW97 is not as classy as the Air Arms handle but, it's got just the right angle on the grip and all the function you need. I just wish I could get get a left-handed Pro Sport and my collection would be completely spoiled for shooting choices. I'm thinking of looking for another TX200 rifle. Miss the one I traded in for my HW97KT. Best wishes with the new rifle Benjamin. Simon 1 Quote Link to post
BenjaminCadd 109
Thanks and yes i agree the 77 stock works a treat with the 97 and deserves the limelight it has earnt, putting to shame two terriers and a bag of rat poison smashing the majority of the rats on the farm, it really is a work horse and that's where it will continue its duties, the Prosport is a new adventure and i will aim for HFT or ranges getting me out and meeting others with the same interest instead of staying a lone ranger haha. Mawders 595
Funny isn't it how people who have owned and loved one of the AA range of springers almost always long for another or go back to them if they ever let them go. The pro sport is truly a master piece of engineering and looks coupled with that barrel make for a very quiet very accurate rifle. Benji you have made the right choice mate! She looks stunning. Even though I own one I live seeing other people's pro sports, brilliant. One word of advice though mate, make sure the first thing you do is drop a few drops of good oil in all pivot points on the cocking lever and also apply a few drops either side of the safety button letting it seep inside. The safety button can stick sometimes when you cock the rifle meaning the gun could fire without the option of having it safe. This only happens if it gets dry and mine was doing it alot. The pivot points on the under lever need an oil once a month or two just to keep them smooth and stop any unwanted vibration or squeaks when cocking it. All basic jobs but will keep the rifle working as it should. If you start noticing a slight twang or strange recoil when firing you would do well to strip and re grease in the right places, the AA muck they use on assembly isn't the best. I hope you have hours of fun with her! What pellet you using mate? Phil 1 Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,589
Without interjecting on Phil's post above here, I have the same early pattern HW77 stock on my HW97 .177 and the balance of the rifle is absolutely spot on with it. Gonna be out with mine today! Better in my hands than the Thumbhole stock is. My TX200 was a beauty and I still own a magnificent TX200HC .177 but, I'm a real Weihrauch man at heart and the rifles I have are just beautifully smooth and accurate as can be to shoot with. But the TX rifle is such a sweet one.; Looks as lovely as it is to shoot and the walnut stocks Air Arms dress it in currently, are as beautifully responsive in handling as they are beautiful to look at! A masterpiece of a spring underlever really. Quote Link to post
slave 33
I just wish I could get get a left-handed Pro Sport and my collection would be completely spoiled for shooting choices. Best wishes with the new rifle Benjamin. Simon Left handed prosports are like rocking horse poo a genuine left hand ps stock sold within the last few weeks http://www.gunstar.co.uk/Air-Rifles/Air-Arms-Pro-Sport-gun-for-sale-gs136291.aspx Quote Link to post
BenjaminCadd 109
Morning Phil, I'm glad you have posted, i was going to ask for your advice on maintenance, i have oiled the pivot points of the rifle, and was wondering about re greasing it, it will be plucking up the confidence though ha ha i would hate to make it worse, i have read about the work timmytree has done on yours and also that he plans to write a post so i should wait for that i think! As for the pellets i put some AA Field 4.52 in to start with and for the first time ever i found these pellets were all over the shop and was worried it could be me and the rifle, but i then put some H and N FTT in her and these seem to be spot on at the moment, what about you? risingfriend 1,042
Good choice mate and 2 fine rifles aswell Love the nickel 97 in a wood stock looks the nuts Quote Link to post
Mawders 595
Hey Ben, AA fields 4,52 work a treat in mine. Not tried anything else other than accupell but they were like shotgun patterns lol. You could try the AA Field in 4,51 mate as I have heard from trusted sources every now and again a few pro sports come along that work very well on the smaller size. A strip down and re grease would suit it very well unless you were lucky enough to get one that's been greased properly by air arms. Phil Quote Link to post
BenjaminCadd 109
Well i decided to follow allot of advice today thanks to the weather, so i decided to strip and re-lube the prosport and....well the grease they put on was poor and had all shot to the fore-end of the spring and upon cleaning this i found between the poorly finished coil end and the next coil behind it metal swarf... i couldn't believe it...... this is dropping standards surely? I mean its not like its a tiny bit! Atb Quote Link to post
Mawders 595
That's flipping shocking but at the same time not if you know what I mean! AA and HW really need to pull their fingers out! Phil 1 Quote Link to post
Mawders 595
Contact air arms mate and tell them it didn't feel right and you stripped it and show them the pic! They need to know how shoddy things are at the assembly plant! That could have caused some damage! Phil 1 Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,589
Why is this happening? The two most reliable names for reliability, quality and legendary accuracy now reducing themselves to the pits with standards that would shame monkeys! This is what would be called sabotage of a brand leader in any other industry. Now they are doing it to themselves? It beggars belief! Quote Link to post
