Would it need to be fit at this time of year????

Id say yes,a dog can still be kept in reasonable shape until bringing it up to working fitness levels as Autumn turns to winter,possibly depends on the individuals interpratation of fit.

 

 

Not disputing that...but there's a difference between being in reasonable shape and fit...my dogs are in reasonable shape but they are nowhere near as fit as they were two months ago...It's not important for me to have them fit at this time of the year...I just keep 'em ticking over...rest and recreation...

 

its nice to have a few months of fun with minimum risk of picking up injuries

 

An unfit dog will pick up more strains and injury,s than a fit un,whatever time of year,when a dogs full on hunting its possibly more inclined to injury,possibly?,yet an unfit mutt running unrestrained in summer is more likely to suffer strains and injury that will more jeopordise the arrival of another hunting season.

 

Answer probably is to make sure and "unfit mutt" isn't running unrestrained in the summer or winter...won't matter when it's running unfit still more likely to pick up an injury...mine's ain't unfit at this time of the year...they're just less fit than they were last winter...

 

I understand where your coming from,i don,t think any dog at this time of year should be hunting fit,but the mutts are want to make the most of the sun on their backs and long grass,which brings the puppy out of the most mature of mutts,stretches aching limbs and sinews and tests the jukels fitness.

 

 

Like to just keep mine's ticking over...but you are right about them not needing to be hunting fit at this time of the year....
