Ireland Nilrc Charity Dog Show At " The Field Of Dreams " Gulladuff Maghera Last Sunday 28Th April 13

Up bright and early last Sunday morning, Dogs and trailer loaded up, Sat Nav switched on, and soon we discovered the road before us was leading to the “ Field of Dreams” Schooling Track “ at Gulladuff, Maghera. Along the way we Joined up with Mickey and Michael Quinn , had our breakfast at the BallyRobin on the Airport road on the way , and arrived at the “Field of Deams “ at 10.00am.

This is where the dreams of so many Whippet, Lurcher, Terrier and Greyhound men and women came true with all their worthy winnings last weekend.

The venue was the “Field of Dreams “ schooling track ,Guladuff. This is an established family run business, owned and run by the Hurley family. The Race Track is top class, and has progressed from strength to strength over the past few years. This was the venue for the Nilrc 1^st annual Dog Show of the year, and was held with kind permission of the Hurley Family. All monies collected at this show will be donated to the “Childrens Baby Unit” Antrim Hospital.

 

The Nilrc show and race day was a real family day out. This was very evident by the large number of children who took part in the childrens handling class. Even though the rain was not kind to us, the smile on those kids faces brought sunshine all around us. These young boys and girls are our show organisers/huntsmen and women of tomorrow,and above all will preserve and promote our country sport long after we have gone. It was a treat to see so many young fathers, all good Lurcher/Terrier/ Whippet and Greyhound folk, all giving their children an interest in life. And what better than the Canine world for this. Keep up the good work with the little ones.

 

As the racing started, the cheering began, and with a packed audience the excitement did not stop to the last race romped home. What a race track, pure gold. All dogs finished safe and sound with not an injury in sight. The showing followed after the racing. Here are the Results :

A very special thanks to the Judges, Tom Barry/lee Archer/Ian Greer/Margaret Mc Stay / Davy Best, and Master of Cermonies Nigel Greer. Not always an easy job, but all carried it out with perfection. They say behind every great man is a great women. Well this was very true on Sunday. Many thanks Arlene Richardson, and children, Heather Greer and family, and last but not least, Leanne Barry and family, for all your help, hard work, and organisation. We could not off succeded without you. Clicking away there all day with his camera was photographer Richard Mark, happily recording all our moments of glory. It was nice to meet up with you Mark , and a job well done.

 

I always leave the best to last. Words cannot express how grateful the NILRC is to the “ Field of Dreams Schooling Track “ for affording the opportunity to the club to run their show at your magnificent Race Track. As secretary of the NILRC, I want to extend our thanks on behalf of the club, to the owners of the track Mr Joe Hurley Senior, and Karen and Joe Hurley Junior, for your generosity and kindness towards the NILRC and the Charity it was run for, The childrens Baby Unit at Antrim Hospital.

At this point I would like to thank the club for the beautiful gift they presented me with on Sunday. There was no need for it, but it was so much appreciated. I do this job as a labour of love. You are a great bunch of men and women to work with, and long may it continue.

And now for the news that makes all the hard work worthwhile. As a result of the NILRC show, Sponsors, your attendance and generosity at the show, and most of all “ The Field of Dreams “ for allowing it to happen. The childrens Baby Unit at Antrim Hospital will receive a cheque for £1,515. A big thank you to all of you, and give a thought to how many sick little children this money will help in some small way.
