hily 380
Had a bit of flash back the day after watching some racing pigeons at a loft in a nearby allotment , it took me back to when I was kid and how I used to stock our loft and the hi tec gear we used .Sunday morning up early knocked on a mates door and we would get our gear together now her's the list of gear one bin lid a stick and a length of string plus a bit of bread for bait, of we would go down to the bus station prop the lid up with the stick and tie the string to it put the bread under and hide to wait for any hungry bird to wander in and take the bread one tug on the string and the lid would drop and trap the pigeon one more for our loft and no money changed hands. Arr well back to reality any one out there used this sort of set up in their past. Quote Link to post

Outlaw Pete 2,224
Hily; Would you believe I've, just this afternoon, fitted my rubber band to the door of my recently made trap? It's just a wire mesh cage and, yes, I'll be propping the door up with a stick and lying in wait at the far end of my length of string My only real concession to being a long since grown man with access to insider information is my Catching Box. I've knocked up a crafty box that enables me to remove small birds from my traps without having to shove my arm in there. Absolutely minimises the stress to them and me. It's brilliant! But, yes, the bit of stick and length of string method has worked since the dawn of time. Not sure how many kids, these days, would have any interest in messing around with birds though? <Note: I am fully trained and lisenced to catch legally protected birds as part of scientific research. They're not harmed and are released in minutes. FFS don't try this at home! > Quote Link to post
