there used to be a lad on here called pig-boy or somthing like that.

he used to sell half pigs, he'd even get some of the off cuts converted to sausage as part of the deal.

whether or not you'll save depends on how much you pay to start with, but as a general rule yes, buying in bulk on meat works out cheaper.

if you do buy from an independant or direct from a farmer that deals local / organic, the differance in quality versus supermarket mass reared pork is worth the effort, it really is a different class.

if you do a search in the classifieds, for half pig you may find the thread with a contact in it.

i seem to remember that "socks" had some from him, if you cant find the thread maybe PM "socks" and he can put you right.

i do few each year . I normally keep most of it for myself but i do sell a little to close friends. the last lot killed out at around 50kg and i sold them for £75 a half.

i can never compete with a supermarket on price but the meat tastes so much better

me and my mate usually do a few each year for ourselves and family and the quality is outstanding! we kept the last lot on to long and they were really fatty but lesson learned. we get them as weaners and just rear them on his farm till they go to "stye in the sky". the best so far were some saddle back x old spot and the sausages were awesome!!!!!! i think we worked them out at around £100 per pig butchered including about 20lbs of sausages? we didnt do any last year but i dont think it was much more than £100????? my memory isnt brill tho lol
