Had a new ferret today

Recommended Posts

Hi

I got a 8week old albino jill today to add to the pack, set her down on the courtyard and let her have a sniff and a walk around and then i could see her walking funny, limping and front left leg all f*cked.

Then the hard bit, at the moment i have a jill who has 1 kitt at 6 weeks old, and my suspicions were put to rest , almost instantly the mother jill had the new albino in her mouth trying to kill it. I intoroduced them both in neutral territory, but this didnt work. I introduced the new kitt to the mother again about 10mins later, but the same happened.

So ferret went back to the guy i had her from, main reason being her legs were knackered, in breeding ? . I also learnt not to introduce a new ferret to a mother when looking after her kitts.

The kitt wasnt harmed when the mother had her, just a bit frightened.

Lesson learnt and noted for next time.

Its how we all learn, the hard way i learned not to use a knackered lighter to light a sneeky fag at work, cause it set fire to my hair :laugh: i know before you all say it i am a silly bitch :haha:

Nothing wrong with crippled ferrets. Millet has a tiny little cripple, i think her front legs are bent or shorter or something like that, he bred her. She is an oustanding ratter, the best he has :toast: If he had culled her he would have missed out.

She is called the cripple :D

when i go and collect ferts i always put then down so i can see them move (not that it would make any difference as i take them all when there in need)

just so i can see what I'm dealing with as normally the person who owns the fert will take them out of the cage and pass them to you to show how well handled they are. so you wouldn't notice if it moved funny until you git it home even if you just put it on top of the hutch !!

Lets put it this way i got more pleasure when i showed ferrets when a veteran or a disabled ferret got a little prize, theres to much of this gotta be perfect bollox in the animal world , i had a fair few disabled ferrets over the yrs , the worst being a jill who had no back passage & sadly she had to be pts due to her deformaties internally :( she looked perfect other than having no tail

I did want to keep her, even if she was deformed / runt. she was a good size and had good nature (she didnt nip me once). But due to myjill mother taking a disliking to her, i couldnt put her in the same hutch, it would be end of in less than 20mins.
