bryson 562
One... and if it's the right one, then thats all you'll ever need..!!! The more you have, the less they work.... Wise words mate, folk always want more than they need.....I have been as guilty as anyone else of getting more than I have the work for. The reality is not many people have enough work to give one good dog all it could take, that's not a dig at anyone just a plain truth. You need some amount of tackle and a massive level of enthusiasm to work good dogs to the max, I certainly don't and can't and I have only met a very few lads that do and can. Most have them to make themselves happy and there's nothing wrong with that as long as your honest about it with yourself. When you see folk with 5,6,7 dogs and they blag on that they are all getting grafted you just know its complete nonsense........those that know better, know better! So in reply to the OP, I would say one good one and if that is seeing plenty then a decent sapling following up behind when the old dog is getting a bit grey round the whiskers. i see what your saying mate but i was gutted having alot of time off with the dog being injured i said 6 weeks in total the first time was 2 weeks the second 4 and the condition my dog lost took extra weeks on top to get him running fit again so if i had 2 dogs at the time i could of still been working 1 at least 2 Quote Link to post
whippet 99 2,613
i keep two lurchers as it is so frustrating when one is laid up for a while ,..................does me head in ............ not just that if one has had a heavy night out ..................it feels it the next day so i can run tother one..(when hes ready, still a pup) while the other is having a derved rest...... i also keep a whip which is fecking useless but ok at ferreting...............and a few pet russells......... they are all walked every day.....................and its nice to hunt with a little bobbery pack ,......but can and does get you into trouble ocassionaly .lol 1 Quote Link to post
LaraCroft 863
At the least, 2, and at the most 5 - ranging from a 23" TTS whippety type, great for bunnies, up to a 34" TTS who would take most things. 2 of mine are the main breadwinners, one is elderly, the other 2 are just a bit useless but lovely characters, and as a whole the pack is a lovely mix. 34tts thats a big dog,how it bred, any pictures Mum was deer x wolf - no idea about dad. I got him at 6 months old, as he had got too big for previous owner and was knocking their kids over with his tail. Quote Link to post

As you know, one good dog can knock over a massive amount of game so you would be shifting through some fair amount. As I said, gen on question. 1 Quote Link to post
