Replacing A Weihrach Spring

Recommended Posts

If you can go the extra, give Sandwell Fieldsports a shout and get their spec spring with a matching guide. Top quality kit and it'll smooth things out a bit. Not essential but better than standard. Don't be tempted to fit an OX or similar, it'll ruin it.

Other parts depend on what you find once it's in bits. If the breach or piston seal look at all damaged then replace them too. It's unlikely it'll need anything else so long as all's otherwise well.

A light coating of molly grease on the spring and guide and if you can get some, a light smear of pure silicon grease on the piston seal. Make sure you properly de-grease the thread where the trigger block unscrews from the cylinder. They tend to trap grease that'll end up contaminating the piston seal upon reassembly which will make the gun diesel.

Another tip is if check the trigger assembly carefully after you have removed from the stock and if needs be tape it up. Just in case there are any loose or worn pins.

You don't want to be loosing anything unnoticed and believe me it can happen.

just remember to take stage pics, this way you will know ho it all goes back together.

and remember silicone grease for seals & O rings & molly grease for metal to metal moving parts!

thanks for your good advice. has anyone made their own diy spring compressor.this is the only part of the dis-assembly that worries me as some videos i have seen just shows people unscewing the end cap ,while others say this can be extremely dangerous as there can be a certain ammount of preload in the spring.thanks again..

We have our own spring compressor. DIY. Better explained in words.

If one of the Gurus falls short with a link then give me a shout.

You will need a sash clamp. A vice. Some plastic tube and a bit of broom handle. I will let you fill in the dots.

I had an 80 and put a TR Robb kit in. Didn't need a spring compressor. Oh and watch out for a small pin that can fall out of the trigger assembly. You will wander where it's came from and also the tiny spring from the safety catch.

If you get a Robb kit you get a DVD step by step guide.

agreed iana. put a bit of duct tape on the safety catch so as not to lose the minute spring like tjhe first time i did an 80 and spent 2 hrs on my hands and knees on the kitchen floor. i finally found it under a skirting board. lol

i done a 97 .22 and a 97 + 95 .177 without a spring compressor. the .177s seemed to have a slight bit more perload, but at sub 12ftlbs neither were a problem to get the spring out or back in safely.

i was thining that, sort of a 1 inch bleghhh and its over...unless you twist the cap out lol. but! thats if your sure it isnt an fac spring..bit of a suprise on them, even tem shitty short ox springs can take flesh or an eye out!

edit..putting them back in isnt that hard eather come to think of it...just be careful when you have to align the piston bar with the spring guide, some are fiddley as hell and take several attempts , i had one took over two hour pissing about before it finaly locked into place..eeee
