My scope mounted 30W 4300k HID conversion Lightforce

Recommended Posts

There's a mouth full of an awkward title.

So I took the plunge before Christmas after a fairly in depth conversation with an Australian seller on Ebay. He assured me this kit would increase brightness and visible distance over a 100w halogen, and only draw 1/3rd of the power. What's not to like?

We had a long chat about colour temperature and settled on 4300k (for kelvins and not thousand). I've had it out in anger tonight and it gives a light colour pretty much just like you'd get from a halogen light. Now, I do have another 170 Striker and a 100w bulb, but I've not compared them directly yet as I need to rescue that other light from my indoor landfill (shed).

Bad point, you cannot dim a HID. Meh, use the halo or a filter.

Check out the blog for tonights goings on:

Nah, no melting with this one. There are 35w and 55w kits available, and higher again W kits. They'd melt him and Jack Frost, and send the Man in the Moon running for the dark side. The 30W kit is very handy considering all, 3 times more time on any battery if we compare it to a 100w halogen, can't argue with that :)

Oh for sure, only flaw so far is it can't be dimmed but that's no biggie if a person is smart about using the halo. Sorry, I lie, there is another. On the scope, if I'm shooting much downhill or uphill the weight of the ballast can "tip" the light slightly, enough to take the spot off the target. It's mildly annoying but I'm sure there's an easy solution to it.

Plenty of room in my wallet, cos it's empty!

I found a switch I had bought a long time ago, it's for a hand held Lightforce so just a simple on/off clicky.

Wired her up on the + line and it works. I did discover that I cannot just switch it on/off at will though. I must wait a good ten seconds or more after switching the light off before I can switch it on again. Not a problem for me.

What do you make of this fella John.

Couldn't find your other thread. So I thought I would stick it on here.

I have the chance for one at handy money and it feels ok in the flesh. Any comparison to any of your gear?

You being the THL lumen god!! (Or nutter!)
