hair loss

Recommended Posts

I have a old ferret that was born with a twisted spine i didnt think she would ever live long but that was back in 2006, what she has missed in physical ability she has more than made up for in cunning i:e staying in the bed box while all the others come down for food which they then hide in the bed box . She has had a very good life in the court with the other workers getting to share in the spoils from hunting trips that we used to do when we still had rabbits round here. But just lately her hair as started to fall out she still seems fine in her self but looks crap it cant be mites as i think all the rest would have it ? Ive just been up to clean and feed and shes running around with all the rest . I dont think ive ever had a ferret live this long so is it just that shes old( because most of my hair has fallen out as well). PS not rat tail i know about that

My older jills when the stopped coming into season went totally bald from Late March till October they had a good quality of life and as long as you keep them warm seemed happy enough

Unless there are obvious signs of parasites or red/scaly skin the hair loss is most likely hormonal, and could be a symptom of Adrenal Disease. Depends on how much further you want to take it with her but there is an implant that tends to really help with this. It is in no way normal to have a bald ferret at any stage of the year. Wish you the best with whatever descision you make with her. Atb.
