Repeat matings

I got to say, Ive heard folk say this, and it always used to strike me as strange, as you would expect every litter from the same parents to be very similar.

I can only assume that unless your breeding tight into a line, then the ammount of (even slight) variables will be huge, so no two litters would be the same.

Surely if line breeding, the chances are there to achieve a solid stamp with roughly equal performance throughout each litter, but only if tight lines of top quality, hard to achieve? Very I'd say, with the ammount of litters a chap, would have to breed to get to that stage. as well as the ammount of work needed to put in front of each dog to assess its worth fully. But hey we would have no breeds of working dog today if a hell of a lot of great dog men hadnt trod that rocky road
