i agree with Baldie,i am a smoker,ex smoker and now smoker again,and although i am totally against the way the gov't do these things because many people simply aren't ready for the changes they actually get stressed out more and find it difficult to give up because they have been personally challenged!

To put things bluntly,i smoke but wished i didn't or never started,having said that i CHOSE to smoke

and ACTUALLY ENJOY a smoke,on the other hand i usually ask if it's ok to smoke etc,this is usually

fine in most circumstances,but more often than not i would go without if i thought some folks would

be upset,also at the same time i TRULY want to give it up!

All i can say is if your a smoker,plan on giving up anyway regardless of the ban as i intend to again and for the final time,this whole thing is really about the GOV'T which can't control the country properly

telling a minority it shouldn't do this or that,in this case smokers(in others Motorists),hypocritical

though the Gov't are(revenue from tax on cigs)now bootleg fags(losing revenue),rising NHS costs

to treat smokers(will not treat smokers now,after all the time they have made money out of smokers),so why didn't they ban smoking all those years ago,even when faced with hard evidence of lives lost and damage

to people 's health,i tell you this the gov't cannot be trusted,but in yourself you can stop smoking

in spite of them and don't owe them anything,i speak as if your my brother or friend here,you owe it

to yourself to do what you think is right for you,let no gov't tell you that,

Same as Sako, I don't smoke at home and only smoke outdoors if at all.

 

So I didn't mind the ban when it came in here.

 

While we're on the subject, the smoking ban in Ireland was not extended to prisons or mental insitutions, for obvious reasons.

Has there been similar allowances made in the upcoming UK smoking ban?

I work in a Psychiatric Hospital and as of Sunday the patients are not allowed to smoke anywhere on the premises. God help us all

MY TURN .this f****d up government is trying to ban everything the only reason they are banning smoking is that there are too many cheap bootleg fags getting in therefore they are not making enough revenue from them. they say that smoking is bad for you which i must agree with being a smoker myself, but it is estimated that more people will die from obesity related illnesses than smoking so if smoking is going to be banned then FAT PEOPLE should be banned from mc donalds. put a turnstile on the door and if you cannot get through then your not eating.smoking does offend people but seeing a 30 stone donut eatin bull whale walking down the street stuffing there faces OFFENDS ME !

Smoking is still allowed in some pubs here, but in most it is banned so I for my part will, I not go to the ones where I can´t have a smoke. The Spanish government is thinking about banning smoking in all pubs in the future and in the event of that happening, I have a co2 bottle and a beer cooler and pump sitting in the next room waiting for a barrel to be hooked up and my mates and me will have our after work pint or a get together here at my place. FCUK em I say. And for all they want to ban, there is always a way round things.

I'm not a smaker but alot of my family was and still are! I was brought up in a smoking household which didn't bother me one hoot! now obviousley I have my own family things are a little different as none of us smoke, having said that I have no problem when friends or family come round and want to light up! 99% of the time most have the decency to stand on the Balcony or if its pissing down go in the conservatory.

 

Either way its wrong for any Govenment to remove people's human rights! My aguement is I can stand in a smoke filled room all evening and fair enough will smell of smoke at the end of it but I'll live! but if I start my motor up in the garage with the door shut I'll be lucky if I last much longer that 30 mins! its obviouse which fumes are the biggest killer....

Jeeeezus! I'm stunned, people. I really am rocked to the core. I made that last post, effectively '24 hours ago'. It's been up there since the early hours of yesterday morning. Look at the responce england has mustered against me

 

Fact is, I was laughing like a drain as I typed that 'shit'. I was gasping with laughter as I came up with more and more outrageous things to hurl at ye collective heads. Agree, but it must be hard for folks to just give up, when thay have been smoking heavy for a while.

My wife smokes a good bit, rollies mainly, i dont. She tryd to stop and was sucsessfull for a month, but, she was a monster .

 

If you want to stop smoking, dont start.

stoped for about 5 month now.....and i could have murded

mi chest is knackered..... lungs of an old man riddled with disease and will get worse as i get older till it kills me...spend an hour every morning clearing mi lungs....f****n steroids make me bloat up ... wich puts more pressure on mi lungs....what used to be a bit of a sniffle now floors mi everytime and takes months to recover....i cant do half the thing i used to be able to do with out some pain involved and im only 39

and i still get the f****n craveings aswell .......wish i'd never picked the f****n things up in the first place

I duno about this because its ban this and ban that now,everybody is treated like fecking children now in this country now i know the health implications to myself and others who choose not to smoke but as it was said earlier why do publicans not have the right to choose if their OWN pubs are smoking or non smoking..........simple, then everybody could CHOOSE where they can enjoy a pint and another thing if the government is so concerned about the health issues,why do they not ban cigges alltogether ? im thinking the amount of tax the fecker will lose out on may have something to do with it ?

 

Something to think about now,the other week i was chatting to some old boy outside the pub having a smoke and i mentioned about how nice a day it was and the old boy turns to me and say,s " aye it a decent day alright,but its when it gets fecking cauld and damp again thats worrying me lad" and i said how,s that then, and he turns and say,s " well at my age what do you think will fecking kill me first,the fags or the fecking weather standing out here trying to enjoy a fag, chittered to the feckin bone...........fecking tony fecking blair !"
