if you were in competition mate, you'd be allowed 3 shots to foul / warm your barrell ( i think), when your in the field your taking the first shot, with a cold barrell, so i'd be more inclined to zero from cold, because the first round you send at the target from a cold barrell, is the first round you'll be sending at your selected prey species. Its the first one that counts

i checked one day how long it took my cz .17hmr to cool after each shot wit a internal food thermometer,

 

it averaged 50seconds to cool but this was in the summer.

 

HMR will make very little difference, you will have to fire a LOT of rounds down even a light HMR barrel, in very quick succession to warm it up to any appreciable extent.

 

10 shots quickly down a .223 and you will have a very hot barrel!

 

Just the same, Zero COLD! :thumbs:
