Thanks Ferretingman

Recommended Posts

just like to say thanks to FERRETINGMAN (mick),for the invite out on his permission ,my permissions been fecked by mixy and i put a post on THL to see if anyone needed hand with any ferreting around yorkshire .

ferreting man sent me a pm, and a day was arranged, mick agreed that i could go out on his permission with my dog chip and three of this years kits that hadnt been worked yet ,

we first visited a small wood yard with just a couple warrens and we were greeted by the owner who told us he had already shot 18 rabbits and mixy had killed a few off a couple of months earlier ,so thier wasn't many about (the year before mick ferreted over 20 rabbits).we put long nets around the two warrens and entered the kits and after a short wait the kits bolted 2 rabbits from one warren and micks ferrets bolted two from the other ,so we were of to a flyer .

we then moved ground to a horse paddock that mick said normally holds a few easy bunnys ,and we set about putting the longnets around the open burrows, altogether we ferreted six small burrows the biggest having no more than 8 holes ,we were using the kits again ,and they were starting to really get the hang of things ,the first warren we bolted 2 bunnys ,the next two warrens we got we got 1 from each, the next warren we got 3 bolt together ,one escaped the net and was chased and picked up by chip my dog and i almost got a perfect retrieve (its something ive been working on )so i was well pleased.

these are a couple of pictures from the paddock

the next two warrens we got another another rabbit from each ,so from six small warrens we got 9 rabbits .

we then went to farmers field were thier was a large 40+ hole warren we netted up and entered the kits again ,this turned out to be a dissapointment as even with micks experienced ferrets it seemed their were no rabbits at home .

by this time the weather had turned and it had started to rain so we decided to head home with 13 rabbits in the bag .

it was a pleasure meeting FERRETINGMAN and i really enjoyed the day after struggling on my own permission for the past few weeks .

many thanks FERRETINGMAN ...from jim

My misses and kids named the dogs and the ferrets, hence why I have ended up with a ferret called 'Primrose' ffs
