Excellent name choice Daz, I've found the deer/grey crosses easier to train than the saluki crosses I've had and even though I like the saluki types I'll always have deerhound crosses in my kennels Quote Link to post
Floyd17586 454
Cheers bear.atb daz with the pup Quote Link to post
DazAllison 32
I've always had a fancy for a deerhound cross, but the type of running I do suits the saluki Xs, but I've got a good 1 in the kennel the now so thought a wee change would be good, heard a few folk on here saying they take a while to mature? bird 10,014
nice pup that, not seen b/w deerhoundx before, is there anything else in there as well .? Quote Link to post
BEARINATOR 2,924
heard a few folk on here saying they take a while to mature? With them being big boned they take longer to stop growing and mature later than other breeds Quote Link to post
DazAllison 32
Bird, she's actually brindle and white because she's 2nd gen it'll be a through back from the greyhound, Berb, aye mate reckoned that, what's your experience with them on the "larger rabbits"? Quote Link to post
BEARINATOR 2,924
Bear, aye mate reckoned that, what's your experience with them on the "larger rabbits"? I ran mine on both brown and mountain hares and they did alright, I ran my old boy on the fens at my mates place as well which suited him more than some of our local small fields. Fantastic sight seeing a good deerhound cross on at full pelt on the back of a brown hare in big open spaces Quote Link to post

border lad 1,047
in my opinion you have taken a step back, in your type of cross, the deerhound cross was very popular in the 60s and 70s I used to keep them, in that era, mostly 3/4grey 1/4 deerhound, and also mated into a good collie grey, bitch produced, a good type of coursing dog for R,H,D, they are a good looking dog with there broken coat or rough coat with beard an all, and of course you get a smooth coat as well, they can do there job well on ROE, But for me the saluki cross a good one that is, they can do it all, strong running power, good feet, endless stamina, ((( with in reason)) quick recovery from a hard course, (((( they are a little more tempramental, than the deerhound cross, (((( everyman, to his choice of dog, ((( certainly not mine, NOT NOW ANYWAY, Quote Link to post
