brenner 775
was in two minds on weather to get a spaniel or a terrier for bushing to lurchers. ive used terriers before and between mine and me mates i found very little room for improvement, the only draw back being the terriers going to ground when you dont want them to and some being too independent to stay around you . and the fact that a few weeks ago i lost a little terrier bitch to this soured me a bit, so spaniel it was [working bred] . have to be honest, i never even gave spaniels a second look and have no experience with them{only what i read just before getting one} so to me getting a spaniel was outa my comfort zone. but the spaniel seems to have been a good choice so far. hes not exactly earning his keep just yet as a bushing dog as you can imagine at 3 1/2 months but i had him and the lurcher pup out ferreting the other day and i was very happy with him. he marked holes with accuracy, once he stuck his head in a hole and that little tail start waggin faster ye knew there was something home. then once the nets were down, sure enough he wrecked a few trying to ram himself up the holes he was most interested in but after a few corrections he was pretty steady with the nets and seemed to understand fairly quickly that once i threw a net over the hole, it was mine and he just spent his time moochin around checking the holes and listening when he could hear a bit of action under ground.ide be lying if i said he was 100 % steady with the ferret but in fairness to him he doesnt try and kill it if he gets it, he just wants to pick her up with a soft mouth but il get him out of that fairly sharp i think. il try get pics up tommorow. thanks for reading a.t.b bren... 3 Quote Link to post
