Simoman 110
we have the dogs suited for our various regions and locations. I would just as soon work on what we have as opposed to importing an expensive, 'luxury'.... We seem to have some outstanding dog in this country for our quarry :thumbs-up: :thumbs-up: Also as gavmac pointed out, two or three outings hardly tests the dog and qualifies it for a "working" breeding program. snoopdog 1,256
yer they are pure shite arnt they why bother putting them over a greyhound to make the best hare dogs in the world ......you need to fetch new blood in any running dog as there genes slowly weaken after time of line breeding ....what better dog to use than a DB saluki ....i could be wrong next time sombody wants to get there greyhound or lurcher lined they might be better standing outside crufts . ... there is some quality breeders in the uk but they all breed off desert bred stuff ....and they still work em ... Ruah Midbar 0
First for Frank, I am "Mrs. Ruah" if you won't mind notice the name, and that is not my name. When hunting is illegal it makes it hard to leave the country for hunts and testing each dog for 10 times or more or even just to go out on a hunt. I do my best in testing the hounds, and I do get fine results. As for the website, it shows my hounds in comprehensively. I lure course them (sadly in the last almost two years the Israeli Sighthound club stopped with this activity) and yes, I also show. I never heard that a working dog should not be shown from any reason. Wins in shows are for my and my hounds' fun, we enjoy showing off and even nicer if we win. I do not intend to convince anyone into anything, and may every man live with it's own thinking. My idea was to correct some ideas brought up about my hounds which are incorrect (they are pure COO 100% DB lines and bred, no show line has been mixed at any point) and that is all. We can fight over where there is a stronger and harder to catch game but I don't see to where that will take us... I didn't intend to get into any fights with "some people". A link to my site was added here (not by me), some wrong information about my dogs was written and this is what I came to correct. Some breeders and judges like my dogs, some don't. That's life. I breed my hounds with love, with knowledge and care and I know that if I had to stay alone in the desert and count on my hounds only for food, I could have with no worries. I do not plan to reply any further for any sardonic messages or replies as I know I do what I do the best way and no remark or insult can change that around. Michaella. PS. The photo added was taken in the USA, the red female is out of my "B" litter in my kennel. I cannot allow photos of my hounds on hunts as it would be a little bit of a problem claiming that they were not taken in Israel. Quote Link to post

brookie 1,193
i have been trying to purchase a pedigree saluki bitch for my daughter for nearly 18 mths and have never encountered anything so difficult my daughter is very knowledgeable as far as dogs are concerned she as been brought up with saluki hybred lurchers you just cannot find salukies in this country to buy and believe me i have searched high and low i have friends all over the country constantly looking for that elusive advert we would import but you cannot even get information as how do you do it forget the saluki club they are a non entity they just do not go outside there small circle of friends and very rarely let dogs go outside the club on top of that they very rarely breed so you can understand why its difficult to obtain an animal does anybody have any information as to how to import ive tried most of the sites abroad but to no avail Quote Link to post
Meerihunter 7
Ruah Midbar, Cracking looking hounds I have been watching your clips on you tube you can see my Saluki's if you search 'lazylurchers'. For anyone to doubt the quality of CCO Saluki's they obviously don't have a clue, with thousand upon thousands of years of selection behind them living and hunting in some of the harshest places on the planet they are one of the most awesome predators on the planet. Nothing can match a saluki for speed and stamina over rough terrain and that is without taken the heat into account. UK Salukis are in desperate need of fresh blood. My own Salukis are all so very closely bred that is worrying for the future. Edited June 16, 2007 by Meerihunter Quote Link to post
Ruah Midbar 0
I want to thank those who said some kind words and a special thanks for tyson (you know why). I wish to reply to Brookie and Meerihunter. Brookie; I might not be up to date, but I think I had the information some months ago that dogs from EU countried that were either born there or approved to stay in that country for over 6 months do not require the quarantine when enetring the UK (I assume this was the main problem?). About any other required tests I do not know. There are few DB hounds around Europe now (among them me and my last two pups in Romania, Micaela in Finland, in Sweden and some Iraqi dogs in Germany) and I am sure it would be possible to bring over to the UK some new dogs. I suppose you will have to check out the special papers needed. I am just sending now one of my girls to Durban, there they asked for mainly many papers and some blood tests so it shouldn't be more than that in the UK (the papers and blood test will prevent the need of staying in a quarantine). Meerihunter; You wrote that the breedings are bred in- and line-breeding for too long. Why not get a new dog to the breedong stock? This breed is in general healthy but problems with pop out if bred like this for too long. Good working hounds can be found as well as offsprings from those blood lines. From what you tell me, all the Saluki breeder in the UK need is one brave person to bring a new hound that could stand in the standard of both the shows and coursing. About YouTube, I will take a look at your hounds today. There's nothing in thw world that I love more than beautiful Salukis Thank you again for the kind words about the COO and my hounds, they mean the world to me. Thanks again, Michaella. Meerihunter 7
Michaella, For me it's not so much about being brave (although yes that certainly comes into it) it comes down to money and connections to ensure you know what you are getting. I don't have the slightest idea of the costs involved. I do know that it was going around $1000 to send one of my pups to virginia usa. I would expect it cost more to bring in one in to the UK under the pet passport sceme. Again I havn't really fully looked into the whole process. The problem is my Salukis are bred for coursing/hunting and if was to bred to almost any of the other coursing bred Salukis in the UK they would all be closely bred to mine. For the future the only way is new blood, anyway I have more than enough dogs for now. Here is a pic of my Salukis plus one of my pups that a friend took. My 3 then the pup my friend took in the foreground. And my First Saluki (the one in the foreground) Best of luck Snoop if you do intend to import a Saluki. Regards Mark Quote Link to post
