Spring rifle tuning.

As many on here know. on firing a spring powered rifle the resulting torque effect that occures as the spring unwinds causes a twisting effect on the cylinder this is transmitted to the scope and mounts which on really pokey rifles can cause the scope itself to gradually turn in the mounts. I remember many years ago in the 1960,s some BSA models then were fitted with a generic thrust bearing on the spring end nearest the trigger assembly, A practise now long discontinued. whowever I saw on fleabay a seller offering new generic bearings for a HW for the dirt cheap price of only - £1.35 + 75pence postage!! obviously these bearings are available for all types of spring powered rifles. REMEMBER though you might have to shorten your spring slightly to keep the FPE bellow legal limits. and whatever you do DONT fit it inside the piston as it will up the power slightly. Cheers, Tron.

Does it really make a difference if it's fitted to one side of the spring or the other? Either way will reduce the torque effect of the spring, or is it that the extra weight at the piston end will possibly cause power problems in some rifles?

just get some fine wet & dry and a tube of autosol and polish to a mirror finish, job done!#

Adding a bearing is just another component that can be prone to failure and possibly cause more damage than good

Yeah i agree don't fancy having a collapsed bearing bouncing about inside the gun.
