when renewing your FAC can you have a calibre put on your ticket and purchase the gun at a later date? or will you just have to do a variation after renewel apon purchasing the gun??

yes and you will have the next 5 years to purchase it

You'll not be able to purchase any gun unless its on your ticket, you can apply for a variation at anytime doesn't have to be on renewal and as paulus said once the variation is granted you can then purchase the new calibre at anytime in the 5 year your ticket is valid
