TULLY CASTLE FESTIVAL AND DOG SHOW LAST SATURDAY 11TH AUGUST 2012

Recommended Posts

Tully Castle , Enniskillen, overlooking Lough Erne was the venue for the local Festival and Dog show last Saturday 11th August 2012. This impressive Castle is the remains of a fortified house and bawn, and is set on beautiful Tully Point. The Castle was first documented in 1619, shortly after being built for the Hume family, who lived there until 1641. However, the castle was attacked and burned on Christmas Eve in 1641, and it has never been lived in since. For the past 350 years it has remained ruined and desolate. In the 1970s the site was cleared of ivy and growth revealing the paths of an old garden. On the current site, a 17th century style garden has been recreated for visitors to enjoy while the ruins are also very impressive. An abandoned farmhouse, just a short stroll along a pathway from the Castle, has been restored as a visitor centre and contains an exhibition telling local stories relating to the castle. Not only was this a Dog Show, but also a chance to go back in time and just imagine you lived in that Castle.

The sun was shining continuously all day and as the brass band played in the background, this added to the atmosphere and enjoyment of the Dog Show and Festival. There was a large crowd there. Families and Canine men and women, all just out for the day to forget their troubles and cares, for a days craic and enjoyment, and enjoy they did.

It was nice to meet up with old friends and to also meet some new ones. Scott Fallis was there, with his lovely wee son Harry. Scott was master of ceremonies on the day and got the show up and going in the absence of Wesley Scott who was on holiday. Scott you did a wonderful job and many thanks for that. I also met up with George Gott , Gene Gallagher, Barry Holland, Conor Gamble, Terry Moore, Joe Boggs and Tommy Melaugh, and of course “Bluebell “ Deidre Mc Coy and her husband Patsy. These people know how to enjoy themselves and their dogs, and are always up for a laugh and good company. We had some excitement on the day also, when my husband John Mc Stay won Overall Supreme Champion and Best in Show with our beautiful Whippet “ Riley “ That was the icing on the cake for us.

And Finally, May I take this opportunity to thank, Wesley Scott, Scott Fallis and their most efficient show committe for a wonderful days enjoyment. I must not forget Norma Heap and her PA system, for announcing the names and results without a hitch. You did a brilliant job Norma. To the judges, Frank Maguire , Gene Gallagher and another lady, whose name I did not get. You had a very difficult task, but carried your duties out with precision. Bluebell ( Deidre Mc Coy ) and Scott Fallis took the photographs of the dog show, and many thanks for that. I will be looking forward to seeing them up on the forum shortly. As the long dark days of winter will be closing in on us shortly, it will be nice to take the photograph album out in the middle of winter, in front of a big coal fire, and have a look at this Summers shows and our moments of glory with our faithful Canine friends. I really enjoyed the show and the beauty of Tully Castle”. Already looking forward to next year God willing.

Margaret, Once again you set the scene so well- it was great to see you, John and the McCoys again. Thank you for your effort in coming to Fermanagh for our wee show. It is appreciated. Next year efforts will be doubled to get the classes sorted (Barry helping with this), and hopefully we will get a great turnout. Thanks again, and is great to see from the photos that you all enjoyed the lovely surroundings. And well done Riley!! Scott

The Keep er Lit Dog Show and Raceday Sunday 20th July 2025
Doagh Equestrian is situated on the beautiful Antrim coast in the village of Doagh, Co Antrim. This was a new venue for the “Keep er Lit” Dog show and Race day and the ideal spot for   last Sundays Show.
From early morning, cars and trailers arrived from North and South of the border. Some people came as far away as Limerick and Drogheda with families and dogs in tow. Our good canine folk love a good dog show in the summer and a chat with like minded people. They certainly were not disappointed at the Keep er Lit show.
As the show progressed, so did the banter and the craic. The rings were well spaced out with a good long race track. Paul Boyd was there with his country sports stand, with everything needed in the hunting fraternity.
Some very tasty burgers were available on site and an Equestrian shop with great discounts on offer on the day. I had to take control of my retail therapy when I got into that shop, as I was like a child in a toy shop with to much to choose from.
The weather was glorious all day and at times to warm. As usual the raffle generated a great buzz around the field with some great prizes on offer.
The show started with the racing first at approximately 12.30
Here are the Racing and Showing Results

      Congratulations to all above winners.
And Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank the judges and their ring stewards on the day,on behalf of the Keep er Lit Team for a job well done.
Strong Dog Judge : Gareth Barnett
      Lurcher Judge       : Gerard Melaugh
      Whippet Judge      : Colin Maguire
      Terrier Judge         : Martin Breen
      Pets Judge             : Gail Ross
Judging is not an easy job, but you were consistent and fair, and very successful with the end product.
The racing was carried out as usual to perfection by The Mc Grath Racing Club Carlow. These people have many years experience in the Canine world both in showing and racing and their input helps to alleviate the pressure on the show organizer on the day. A job well done Biddy and team.
Some lovely photographs were taken on the day by various people, and no doubt these will be up on the site shortly.
And Finally, Finally, they say behind every good man is a good woman and Leigh Thompson along with Paddy Gibson, you both definitely fitted into that category. Your show was run with impeccable organisation. It was evident on the day a lot of hard work and sleepless nights was put into  this now annual Show. Leigh and Paddy you pulled out all the stops on the day and produced a top class show in a top class venue. Well done and a credit to you both.
I am Looking forward to more of the same in 2026. Thank you for the memories. To we meet again God Bless.
