MoChara 1,632
Lets Get behind the Paralympians they train just as hard as their able bodied counterparts and have pride, guts and determination to match if not more. Come on Team GB. Exactly - one of the girls in team GB - i think its archery she does but she won the common wealth games against all the able bodied athletes. She should do well

gnasher16 31,600
Without wishing to sound harsh or unkind....i find a lot of this paralympic stuff a bit of a joke really............ok its easy to say that as an able bodied person and i admire anyone who is competetive and can gain enjoyment and fulfilment through sport.....those less fortunate than ourself deserve every chance and my hats off to them 100 %.........................but to pretend like its some big worldwide sporting event i find a bit ridiculous........................lets keep it real,90% of people who ran home from work to watch Usein Bolt or Mo Farrah are not going to run home to watch a bunch of blind people crawling round the floor searching for a ball with bells in !!! Boccia ??? what the fucks that about...........wheelchair rugby....are you sure !!...........people running round a track with contraptions attached to their legs because they dont have any...........we could make up any sport we like if thats the case...............horrible as it is to say lifes not always fair and the reality is many sports are just not for the disabled .....sure do them for hobbies and enjoyment and be competetive.......but lets not pretend like its a big world event in the sporting calender everyone should get behind....thats just political correctness gone nuts in my opinion. Hope ive not offended anyone ....but surely best to say it as you see it and all that. Edited August 14, 2012 by gnasher16

Hope ive not offended anyone ....but surely best to say it as you see it and all that. I am. Just like the Olympic Games - the Paralympics will inspire some young disabled athletes to take up sport.. It is NO different to the Olympics - just like them Games "the Paralympics IS a world event in the sporting calendar". Im hoping it will inspire most if not all of the people in my sisters day center - including my sister. They may not be able to do the sports the same way but they do them in a SPECIAL way, which in my opinion makes the Paralympics more interesting and exciting to watch Edited August 14, 2012 by MoChara
gnasher16 31,600
Thats fine and good for you............like i said i admire the guts and character it takes to compete able bodied let alone disabled so my hats off to them.................you say its no different to the olympics of course it is,they are manufactured immitations of true sports........i just dont think its right the way theres an " olympics " for it.....why not just be competetive on a small scale......disabled sport is far in the minority compared to able bodied why does everything have to be equal when its clearly not. As regards the " blind people crawling around searching for a ball with bells in ".....i didnt mean that in a piss takey way.....i just meant, that is the sport they call " goalball " !!..............how can basketball be played without bouncing the ball and still call it basketball..............i think some of it not only degrades sports but degrades the athletes themselves..........................but hey, best of luck to them if they get something from it. MoChara 1,632
I know your in no way trying to be nasty or piss take the subject - just thought id ad that BUT - i see it no different to the Olympics, and frankly if there was no Paralympics i would go mental lol. Its just my nature though.. i believe in equality to a massive extent especially when it comes to the disabled, so i will always argue to im blue in the face about the subject I just thought you being a big sports supporter - you would have been all for the Paralympics.. We will just have to agree to disagree on the subject
gnasher16 31,600
I understand different folks will feel different about it ive no problem with it as im all for anything that enriches peoples lives who struggle....................i just dont think we as society should be expected to get behind it as we would the proper Olympics thats just unrealistic....... Just to add..............a lad comes in the gym in a wheelchair he has the most fantastic upper body you could wish for....but his legs are like toothpicks..............he,s a nice fella and has a great approach to lifting, but he accepts he could never enter a bodybuilding contest......for me thats an honest approach to both sport and disability. Yes im a big sports fan but im a sports purist......and a realist..............so for me something like the paralympic powerliftng competition will never be a true sport as powerlifting is a 3 lift sport...........and they only do 1 lift ( bench press ) as most dont have legs..........same as can be said for most paralympic sports its not a true sporting contest, how can it be.............but again....every respect to them for not laying down to the world. Just to add they are not all in wheelchairs.. Just because they are in wheelchairs, have an illness or have a disability of ANY kind - well it DOSE NOT MEAN the nation and frankly the whole world should not get behind them and support the athletes! The whole point is the Paralympic athletes are the same as the Olympic athletes and should be treated with the same respect, pride and support that the Olympic athletes were given when it was time for they're games.
