rifle lamps

Recommended Posts

I use both the Cree Tacticals and a 'Propper' gun lamp.

The cree's are brilliant, but I've found that the 'softer' light from the Deben lamp does not spook the bunnies as much.

The light from the Cree's really is 'Blinding' but it can be softened somewhat. The smaller cree lamps also suffer in the really cold months, due to rechargable batteries not liking the cold.

I managed to get a new cree 1600 lumen handheld torch and a scope mount for it on ebay for around £20 all in and it works better than my mates deben stlye one which i think is only 600 lumen, only thing is i dont have a pressure switch but its a cheap way of getting the job done.

Right, you do not need a 1600 lumen torch at night, you are looking for bunnies at a maximum range of 50 metres, not escaping prisoners, incoming Heinkel HE 111s or accompanying paratroopers. What you want is a decent light that lasts a long time, is focusable, dimmable and uses an easily obtained and replaced power source. Of course it does not want to be over heavy and as an added bonus will fit into a clamp on your scope.

Something like this...

So look here...

That baby runs for 7 hours on 1 set of 2 x AA batteries, make it even cheaper get some long life rechargables, just carry a set of Duracells for in case of emergency! Easily changed in the field. The focused beam can reach out to 70 metres! Flood good to about 30 metres at full pelt, if you go focused and bring it down to 10% of output, you can still pick the eyes up!

Clamps can be picked up from any gun shop.

No i admit you dont need a 1600 or even a 1000, but i use the torch for other things, and its never on full wack you can dimm it and bring the zoom down to suit, its just a cheap way of doing things rather than buying a deben kit or something.

So why does it say it item description they are in Portsmouth? Imagine what happens if it goes wrong, would you like to pay the Tracked International Airmail Package price to return it? Compare this to simply goign to Tesco's if it goes tits! I would actually say that the listing you provided is illegal as they are based in China, not in Portsmouth!

My Cree's are a Red one (red led) that puts out 250-200 Lumens (lumans are a measurement of light hitting the subject and not the traditional Candle Power which is the power of the source). My White LED is 300 Lumens and easilly shows up the bunnies at 60+ yards but like I say the light is BLINDING and does tend to disturb the quarry.

My 'Gun Lamp' is a Deben Tracer Atom.

The Tracer Atom is much lower in output even at full output, but the reflector is dappled, this makes the light much softer and the bunnies dont get disturbed as much.

I also have an infra red Cree bulb unit, which will be usefull with a home made NV project I'm about to start work on equipment :)

1600 lumen is good if you intend on using filters. A 300lumen torch with red filter will probably chuck out 50 lumen if your lucky. I have a tri star 1200lumen. With dim switch, and filters and it works a treat. This is my third one though, as the other two wiring system was all to fook.

one tip you will need to know, click..click ..click...click..ahh went past it..click fashing mode...click flashing stobe with boobs on mode click..1 lumininum click 3 lumiminum click..20 lums later click 20 lumiminum click..any bodt died of a stroke waiting yet? click half mode with santa jimgles, click the laser mode click the blue neon fish tank special fangy eyes wazerk mode click..

if it has click modes, dont bother..!! a twist bezel head mode so once its on that setting its stays there. a strobe is about as alarming as you can get lol..after 2 hours silently getting there you start to flash sos before it'll switch off? lol.

if you need a big lamp and already have a bulb one, ehhhh use it, but, i will say, sheeesh cant beet a cree for size and power. fits in your shirt pocket and lights 100-500 yards depending on how strong it is?

tail cap presure switch's can be bought or very easily made.
