Man O War Dog Show Held Last Saturday 21st July 2012

Recommended Posts

Man O War Dog Show gets its name from a townland between Keady and Castleblaney, and this is where the Man O War dog show took place last Saturday 21st July. With its spectacular views of the surrounding countryside, and in the shadow of Clay Lake, herds of cows and sheep could be seen far away on the hillside enjoying the freedom of the summer. The weather kept up and the attendance was good. The show was well organised, and it was evident that a lot of hard work was carried out behind the scenes to make this show a success and enjoyable for everybody. And enjoyable it certainly was. All the Canine folk arrived one by one with their families, trailers, and dogs in tow. The field filled up very quick, and it was not very long before you could hear the laughter of children playing, while the adults began to enjoy the show. At the end of the evening all the hard work and organisation paid off. It was announced that the show had raised £750 for the NDCS (National Deaf Childrens Society) This is a charity very close to the hearts of Michelle and Charlene Rafferty the organisers of the show. It will be comforting to Michelle and Charlene to know that the money raised at their show will benefit children in our community and further afield. It was you, the show goers generosity, and that of the sponsors that will help to enable these children to get the medical help they need to live normal and comfortable lives now and in their future paths in life. Well done Michelle and Charlene, you both done a great job.

The show started at approximately 12.30 with the Racing. Here are some Random Results. We show our dogs too, so I dont get all the results. Please forgive me if I missed some out. I still have some Lurcher results to come. I will edit them in when I receive them.

And finally, many thanks to Plunkett and Mrs Rafferty for allowing the show to take place in his field. Without you, all of this would not be possible. We must not forget all the sponsors for being so generous with the beautiful gifts. The trophys that were awarded on the day were prepared by Lynn Meek. Lynn what would we do without you. Thanks for all your hard work.Billy Harpur was there clicking away with his camera. Looking forward to seeing the photographs. Thanks for that Billy.I could not end without thanking Michelle and Charlene for the beautiful boquet of flowers presented to Lynne and myself at the show. It was so thoughtful of you and much appreciated by both of us. Again Michelle and Charlene many thanks for a very enjoyable day,and a brilliant show, you both did a great job. I am already looking forward to next years show again.

Hi Margaret, it was a great day wasn't it :boogy: ....... and lots of money raised for charity!!

I think the overall Best In show winner was Fiona Devlin with Maverick (lurcher) :toast: & Reserve Best In Show was Gary Kane with his whippet dog (not sure of it's name). :toast:

For Best Puppy in show it was also the lurcher , owned by Declan Gordon :toast: & Reserve Puppy In Show was again the Whippet, Tracy Gill's Ash. :toast:

Maybe Charlene or one of the organisers could clarify this. :hmm:

Also 3rd in whippet pups should be Niamh Martin with Bambi, not Anne Forsythe.

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
