worldruler 58
My sister got a collie pup from working lines the other day and all was going well until sunday evening when the puppy started apparently fitting, they took the pup down to the vets for an emergency appointment, the vet said it looked fine and couldnt find anything wrong with it apart from the fact that it was alot younger than the crofter said it was probably about 5 weeks rather than the 7 he said it was. Now tonight I saw the pup for the first time and I too agree with the vet the pup is defo not 7 weeks, however it seemed fine and playful with the kids until it fell asleep, about half an hour later it started kinda shaking like it was dreaming but my sister said this is what happened lastnight, so I went over to have a look at it, its eyes were open and its head was nodding, it then shat itself got up and ran round squeeling like mad for about 2 or 3 minutes, to me it looked like the way some young pups do when they need a crap kinda panicky like but much more intense, it then crapped again, this time properly and seemed to calm down within about a minute. She will contact the vet again tomorrow and the crofter who gave it to her, but can anyone on the site give us an idea what this might be, my old man says that the pup may have been born premature although she did not seem like a runt by anymeans at all! cheers John

Moll. 1,793
Sad news. Did they say the cause?
worldruler 58
the vet asked if it had merle in it, seen both parents and they were a smooth haired black and white collie and rough haired black and white collie, so as far as we know no merle, but he suggested there was from the markings and as such it could have some sort of genetic defect, parents were not related as far as I know either, the only other suggestion was a liver issue, so looks like we will never know, not taking a pup from that guy again as he deliberately lied about the pups age though

worldruler 58
yeah he s a typical crofter type who most likely wont give a shit, so it wont make a difference to him!
littlefish 598
That's a shame about the pup. Hope they have better luck if they decide to have another.
