rascal_2005 79
Hey guys I was just wondering if anyone here uses split cane rods and old reels anymore? Me and a friend have a couple and a couple of old mitchell 300 reels that we are going to use. We also make our own floats aswell. So anyone? John Quote Link to post
buster gonads 862
I dont use the old rods and reels anymore but i do make my own sliders for stick floating in deep pegs, i used to fish 2 opens a week, most on the Trent but some on the Yorkshire rivers and you needed to carry sliders just in case, now you can get 20ft rods which you couldnt get [or want] in those days, i would rather use a slider than a 20ft rod anyday, buster. neil cooney 10,416
My father will spend good money on the best of rods and then stick a 40 year old Mitchell 300 on it. He has several. Only last week I swapped a perfect Mitchell 305 left handed reel (at least 50 years old ) for a brand new 9' 6" Loomis and Franklin rod. I had used the reel regularly over the years and it still goes like clockwork. Nowadays I seem to throw a modern reel or two in the bin every season. 1 Quote Link to post
