Moll. 1,793
Come and find a flea on my dogs! I may spray one or two, the susceptible ones, once or twice a year, with Frontline, but the rest of the time I spray the house with Indorex, twice a year, and do the kennels with DE. I only use Indorex in the kennels if I see a flea problem. Most of our dogs live in the house anyway, and are regularly combed thoroughly for signs of flea dirt: I have more of a problem with dust mites than anything else. Aye but they still get them which was my point I also never see evidence of fleas here, do my dogs routinely, but i am very allergic to flea bites. So i know if/when i get them. If i wasn't allergic to the bites i would probably think i never got them either. All wild animals have fleas, our dogs come into contact with wild animals, or at the very least go into places wild animals are, so they will always be picking up fleas to some degree. Just one dead rabbit in the car, and you can see fleas jumping for days afterwards All wild birds carry mites, our chickens come into contact in some way or form with wild birds
paulus 26
fleas are everywhere in a normal environment. unless you keep your dogs in a sterile container your dog will come into contact with them on a daily basis, take your back lawn its not just used by your dogs but also birds, squirrels, rats, mice, hedgehogs ect all carry fleas. as moll says just because you dont see them it doesnt mean you havent got them, take rats, your never more than 8ft from one but how often do you see one unless you go looking for them. bunnys 1,236
Perhaps the reason why i and other poultry breeders do not rate DE is the type of chickens we breed. Because they are so tiny they succumb to red mite, whereas on a bigger bird the same amount of mite would not be a problem, on Serama the mites will literally kill them overnight. Hence us paying probably more attention to mites than your average poultry keeper, and hence us knowing DE does not work, it may lessen the population by a small amount, but is not good enough used alone to combat mites moll i use it for my cage birds but i also have a routine of ivomectin , the bbird breeders down under use scatt soluble for there little birds this his also ivomectin based . also poultry shield . atb bunnys.
