andyfr1968 772
Hi, folks. I'm looking at buying a cheepish pistol for me and my boys to do a bit of plinking with and also to help teach my boys better trigger control and I'm leaning towards one of the above but I'm reading some pretty mixed reviews about both pistols on the net. Has any of you had any experience with either of these of could maybe recomend another choice? I do not want to go for Co2 or anything too crappy but I am on a fairly tight budget. Cheers. Malt 379
What about the HW 40? Some of the lads on here suggested one when I was looking for one for my boy last Christmas. I didn't go for it because we decided to put it back a year with him. Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
Why not get something like a secondhand 357? Edited June 20, 2012 by secretagentmole Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
The Beeman is the American name of the HW40PCA. Although Made in China I've shot them and they are pretty sweet. I know a lot of people who use them As for the Typhoon if anyone can hit a barn roof while sitting on said roof with gun pointing downwards, it will be a first! I've shot one out the box and one that had 'allegedly' been worked on. Won't even pick one up now to try. Out of the two there really is no contest Andy Tony 1 Quote Link to post
Malt 379
Just going on what I can find on the 'net because I have a bit of a background interest in this one, but the beeman p3 is the rebranded hw40 and the beeman 2004e is a chinese made clone from what I can gather? Kind of confusing with a clone being sold alongside its original under the same brand label if that is the case! Going solely on the reviews for the Webley, I'd avoid it. I haven't seen one favourable review in all the ones ive read.. Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
I like the sound of the HW40, Malt, but from what I can gather it's basically the same gun as the Beeman but not quite so well finished off. I guess it's nothing that a strip, clean and lube won't help though on the Beeman. Mike? A 357 what??? Thanks, Tony, I think the 2004's got the nod so far. I can't find many folks who've got much nice to say about the Webley and apart from dry seals leaking, the little Beeman seems to get generally decent reports Thanks for the replys, lads Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
Well, after advice from Tony and others we picked up the Beeman this morning from Redbeck and what a lovely little pistol it is. When I first looked at the thing I wasn't too impressed, it looked cheap, felt cheap but then it is cheap. I shied away from the Webley after they let me try one on their range. It was too heavy for my boys, had a horrible trigger and to say it's meant to be semi-recoilless it bounced and jumped like feck!! Not a nice thing to use at all.... After getting the Beeman home, my boys and me have put a tin full of Hobbies through it this afternoon and it's a pleasure to shoot and rather more powerful than I expected. The trigger's a pleasure to use, the open sights are spot on and have a very nice positive adjustment, and after a little bedding in and setting up it was hitting ping pong balls at 15 yards time and time again and I'm no crack shot with a pistol, not by a long way and it must be twenty years since I last used open sights Maybe I've got a good one as I know low end Chinese made guns can be rather random but if mine's anything to go by I can thoroughly recomend one. Very pleased. Thanks, Tony Edited June 24, 2012 by andyfr1968 1 Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
Many members of the UBC have them Andy, so far only one person has had any trouble with it and that was a seal popped. Knowing your skills as a smith, should that happen, it won't be a problem for you at all. The accuracy on paper at 10m is superb, I've had many 5 and 10 shot 1 hole groups with the 40 and others have said same about the Beeman version Glad to have been of help Enjoy....
