zini 1,939 Posted June 17, 2012 Report Share Posted June 17, 2012 To shoot at a target at 200 metres away Adam even in .177 you need to pack the mounts massively to be able to see the target on the reticle. This is what Emma did when she did her 200 metre shot with her HW100. Without this as you aim high to get the elevation needed (lob) you loose the view of the target out your reticle so cant adjust for POI. Also without the help of someone else how do you know where the pellet is impacting at 200 yards? No scope is good enough to pick out a impact at 200 yards from the firer so how do you know if you need to aim lower, higher, left or right? One thing I didn't say is the rifle when you looked at the Twigg shooting it as the target exploded was about at a angle of between 20 and 30 degrees from the horizontal plane. With a 11.5 foot pound .177 rifle the pellet would travel 419 yards from a 23 degree angle so impossible to impact at 200 yards. Call me old fashion but how can anyone adjust onto a target at 200 yards that you cant even see it in your scope as you fire? (all sub 12fp) yu wanna play with an FAC airgun.........all in .177. uh-hum, the 'non hunting' caliber. ghillies 209 Posted June 17, 2012 Report Share Posted June 17, 2012 (edited) zini, no no porkies, wasnt my gun eather, the first of the vulkan venom tuned to come out, back in the day when tasco stole the market with desent scopes.. i was about 17-18.. i'm 45 now. by 22 i'd spend a good 14-16 hours a day 24/7 for two years, prior to that 2-3 hours a day on open feild playing trench rat shooting, ambush style, that went out to 50 yards on a very rare day lol. you've heard people say it doesnt feel right without the gun, it's true... i actualy went into town shopping with the missis one day (begrudgingly) i stood there 'nekid' without it... curious feeling. after hanging about with good hunters, and yes they were very good at hunting, but hmmm 25 -yard max in .22.. eeee they sort of take the edge out of you with the constant 'you cant do that' 'not in .177'...endless self doubt building chatter........ recent, i spent 12 month living in my car, not good at all...stiffens you up bad, cramps your smooth flow for shooting, about year after that i went back to shooting, and ermmm 50 yard starter rabbiting within a month. followed by three year in bed and on a chair.. followed another 5 moth shooting, ffff 64 yarders kept on presenting, and falling, most of which are standing shots.. then another bout in bed blahdy blahdy.. it hurts in head and heart to be sitting about mate...really bad. dont forget the ideal angles...things change suddenly, i think this is why the noddies are kept fed short in the skill to be honest, because it tkes a shed load of attension to tune your self into the nomalies, if you wrote it down and showed a beginer they'd leave within a few weeks.. its a ten year casual or 2 year intensive every breathing moment just to get the auto started. when an old timer sais 'when your on it' or it was a 'sitter' they mean the whole mind and body just lines up on it...yu cant miss. 'the opertunaty presented' basicaly means the stalk to the 'unknown' taget' came to a perfect alignment...after a while if you dont come about to an on it, yu dont bother cuz it wasnt meant to be...(no mysticals here..you wernt on line, the more 'off lines' you try the worse you get at the golden bollox end lol. now for the mystic stuff... you 'put i tthere' its a differnt place to putting a cross hair on, thats the 'clinical' process, a clamped gun posisioned, a mecanicle trigger release, yup that'll hit.. now do it the human way... you know yourself that holding still isnt as easy as it sounds, but after a while you forget to mentally lo at the grip the angle the grip etc and 'other' things start to happen, like shooting in the wind..what wind? yu just nail it.. i cant exsplain it clearly, but its a place all on its own where the 'cant do it bull' doesnt exsist, untill its enstalled by fellow doubters. yu cant put any of that in airgun mag.. you'd have every glue sniffer to hi class hoorah henry thinking theyre luke sky walker.....and ooo up went the stupid accident figures. its a two fold situation, the general public and the noddy routine, and running in the back round is the 'elite' for want of words doing the so called imposables... general knowladge and airgun mags are set for 'average to good shooters, to inspire sales andmaybe bring a few up to the higher levals, but after that, its live in the 'you liar world' lol. ermm i'm not the best btw..far from it lol...eyes have gone off a bit, lotta time in bed i'm a relative newbie everytime i take it up again, but it comes back fast, be it to lesser a leval each time due to health and lack of time in on it. life goes on, even if it sucks and yu woman wont... musket shooters with no stocks on used to take flying doves.. archers..sling shot's..right down to people throwing bricks at it, theres always been a guy(or woman lol) who's ermm.. how the feck did he hit that lol. open sights to start.. scope reflex sight scope..... yu 'find' the pellet... the sights just an aid. verses buy the nice scope n gun.. put cross hair on and squeeze. see the diference? pellet back to scope or scope to target. the pellet way puts you right on the mark, or..really agravates when you cant get on it lol. eather way you 'find the tragectry' sooner or later, or give up.. zini, i bet your not even aware when you shoot yu good stuff? do you know what i mean?
