By the time they've ran out it will have become financially viable for the Canadians to start extracting their oil from their sands and shales on a huge scale IMO.. Canadians, polite as they are, won't be a lot better, the problem is oil itself. We need to find a widely available and cheap power source that everyone can use. Canadians, polite as they are, won't be a lot better, the problem is oil itself. We need to find a widely available and cheap power source that everyone can use. Can't see that happening until they use every last drop of oil they can squeeze from the sands and shales in the ground in Canada, Venezuela, the US and the rest of the worlds reserves both conventional and unconventional. Running out of easily gained light crude oil isn't going to be the be all and end they claim, there's hundreds of years worth of oil out there and that's just the ones we know about up until now. Besides, widely available and cheap energy don't make people as rich as they'd like so we're never going to see it paid any more than lip service, at least not in our lifetimes. I've said it before, but you only have to look at the fascination with bloody wind power to see this. On these islands we have massive energy potential in the tides which surround us and the relatively minute investment into trying to capture a portion of it is a joke.. JohnGalway 1,043
I'm not worried about oil running out, couldn't care less if it does or doesn't. But, what's happening recently is the price is continually pushing up at the pumps. That eats into peoples incomes and reduces their options of travelling for work. Price of oil, or so I'm told, went below $100 a barrel, yet prices at the pumps here are still €1.65 per litre, I'm told they should be under €1.20. Now, the problem with all of this is we have very little choice when it comes to getting around. Why some other company )not oil obviously - but it would make sense for one of them to jump ship), why Bill Gates or some other successful person hasn't tackled the issue is a bit beyond me. You seem to be asuming that these people are motivated by good intentions and not profits. Developing and marketing alternative energy sources is a good way to end up dead !
