siberian huskyx lurcher

Recommended Posts

Not saying there any better or the next best thing but if people didn't try new options we would still be living in caves and taking half an hour to light a fire. Everything progresses even dogs. IMO people judge breeds from what they've seen in pet environments not out in the field. Watch a husky work then come and comment

Where would you watch a husky work ??, Iceland ?.

Any dog that wants to run and pull a sled all day will I admit have stamina and be remarkably fit, it will also be fecking brain dead to want to do so.

You say the Siberian is one of the smartest dogs out but not biddable, total contradiction, if they're smart ( which they're not ) then they should be biddable.

I looked long and hard at huskies many years ago with a view to owning one, brain dead is an understatement, even the breed books written by devotees of said breed advise against letting them off the lead unless in a secure confined space.

They would bring nothing to the table that would benefit a working lurcher that another more suitable breed wouldn't provide.

i suppose its the same as a saluki wanting to run a gazelle o n a red hot day, or a greyhound wanting to run a stuffed hare .? Collies you would think bring all you need to put to a mix for a lurcher( brain, good stamina, good feet+coat), but with the brain part yes have a clever dog, but the same token not 1 that (decide's) what it ithinks it can or carnt catch+ kill .? So people trying differnt breeds (why not) you never know till you try.? ive had bullxs, colliexs got Bryn now 1x colliex grey and doing great job on rabbits, all did what they were supposed to do, but nothing set in stone is it .??

I'm not talking about pulling a sled I'm talking about working in a hunting environment, I posted a long time ago my mal he was 32tts I worked his ass off ,he took rabbits , fox and anything else i wanted him to and I mainly used him at the end of a dig. I wanted to put him over a grey bitch but couldn't find the right grey at the time. most people get huskies as adults who have been poor trained and been governed by these numpties who think it's as it written in books. People get these adult dogs let them off the lead for the first time and oh what a surprise it bolts. But then again any breed would. Train it off the lead from a pup and your have no problem. I'm not the first to do this and I won't be the last.

To do with brains look at the bearded collie as smart as they come but head strong so they take more time to get them the way you want. And ask any musher how many commands sled dogs have to know many more then an obedience dog that I can assure and ask them how quick they learn these commands Again showing there intelligence.

IMO there head strength tho is there biggest quality when the going gets tough they don't throw the towl in they just dig in and get on with it, other less head strong dogs would crumble at first hurdle.
