People will be surprised siberians are fast feckers and apart from there feet arnt big bonned really. It's a miss conseption due to there big coats that there frumpy but there not. There faster then most collies and can run flat out all day when fit. Aye the saluki will be a faster animal buy speed alone doesn't kill, the Siberian Is known to be one of the smartest dogs out but there head strong and not bidable so there intellegence gets over looked. It's a known fact once outcrossed to other animals they become very biddable and the intelligence really shows. And prey drive is second to none. One of the reasons there ain't many about in this x is 20 year ago these dogs were rare as feck so of course no body really experiemented with them now there becoming more common people are giving them a chance a putting running dogs and other breeds to them

i agree even 6/7 year ago sibes fetched £6-700 a pup now they can be free as adults ,an rescues get loads in as people get them and cant cope with their destructive primitive ways,

i seen a dog in town which i thought was a small malamute turned out it was an extremely large sibe male,

but it was a dog that looked alot like you see in usa etc with the natives.

i wonder what a husky x saluki would be like compared to greyhound breeding,i know racers in usa have used both sorts in creating alaskan husky race dogs.

Spot on mate ,

Regards to the saluki I think there's no need if just for a hunting dog as the Siberian would carry enough stamina and I think you might lose the edge if you wanted it for mixed quarry using saluki. In a first x I'd use grey to make sure there was enough pace there also, maybe a second x back to the saluki ?

Not saying there any better or the next best thing but if people didn't try new options we would still be living in caves and taking half an hour to light a fire. Everything progresses even dogs. IMO people judge breeds from what they've seen in pet environments not out in the field. Watch a husky work then come and comment

Where would you watch a husky work ??, Iceland ?.

Any dog that wants to run and pull a sled all day will I admit have stamina and be remarkably fit, it will also be fecking brain dead to want to do so.

You say the Siberian is one of the smartest dogs out but not biddable, total contradiction, if they're smart ( which they're not ) then they should be biddable.

I looked long and hard at huskies many years ago with a view to owning one, brain dead is an understatement, even the breed books written by devotees of said breed advise against letting them off the lead unless in a secure confined space.

They would bring nothing to the table that would benefit a working lurcher that another more suitable breed wouldn't provide.

In the usa they were viewed as a transport animal so were not held in high regard, also some of these people were keeping alot of dogs,

ive just spent couple hours rambling on a sheep infested welsh hillside with a siberian husky lurcher and its owner.

it did what it was told, jumped stiles.gates and stock fences.whilst off lead.

certainly biddable and seemed to have a perfect partership with its owner.

a strong willed dog can be smart but will want to please itsself not its master.
