HOW MANY MESHES DO YOU START OF ON THE RING AND HOW MANY MESHES DOWN ETC SORRY ABOUT THE WAY EXPLAINED IM NEW TO THIS, I CAN MAKE Rabbit NETS THOUGHT I'D HAVE A GO OF MAKING A LONG NET THANKS ALOT ANTHONY if i can remember rightly, you start off making a rabbit purse net,on one side you add an extra mesh (this will be your long length side) then on the width(short side)you take up two loops until it begins to look squared,(long net shape),it's a long time since i last made one, also gate nets are similar to make but not as long, maybe others on here can elaborate in detail, all the best, should keep you off the streets for about six weeks, Higgins. gnipper 6,915
Being honest mate is it worth it by the time you buy all the twine and your time you can buy sheet netting for sod all these days I USED to think the same as you Bob,...in fact,.I once sold sheet netting for long nets,...mostly 4z and 6z,..and when this is 'doubled up',....it catches the rabbits well enough.....BUT,... ..when I changed over to 'spun nylon' and similar twines, it was impossible to get the material in sheet netting form, thus, it had to be hand knotted. Luckily,.I found some skillful enthusiasts who kindly made beautiful long nets designed to my own specifications,...These nets were far more comfortable to work with, and I'll never return to the nylon Z's... Anyway,..it is entirely a personal choice, and the rule must always be,..'If it works for you,..end of story'.... All the best,...cheers,.CHALKWARREN... How does the 10z fare chaps ive seen a few advertised lately? I've got a 6z but its a cnut for catching on stuff. Quote Link to post

mole catcher 1
HOW MANY MESHES DO YOU START OF ON THE RING AND HOW MANY MESHES DOWN With the salvedged edge meshs you will be wanting it to be at least 14 mesh deep(wide) the factory net is 16 mesh deep. As for lenght of net that all depends on how long you want to keep knitting. 25yard long = 900 rows of 14mesh deep =12,600 meshs thrown 50yard long= 1800 rows of 14mesh deep = 25,200 meshs thrown 74yard long= 2700 rows of 14mesh deep= 37,800 meshs thrown 100yard long=3600 rows of 14mesh deep = 50,400 meshs thrown that is how much work is involved in making your own net, still want to have a go at it? As chalkwarren said, a hand made net is the dogs do-dar to use and it feels so much better to handle as they used to say on Blue Peter, heres one i made earlier Quote Link to post
