BOLIO1 1,078
Actually they can Jasper. The way it works is the land owner gets paid to allow the erection of one or more "bat'n'bird blenders" on his land no matter how little actual electricity it produces. Since a side effect is the destruction of birds, they're sort of killing two birds with the one stone. However this industry is of course too inefficient to survive without massive subsidies and so they hike the cost of our electricity to pay for it. It's an excercise in wealth redistribution.......we all, including the poorest people in the land, have to pay higher bills to subsidise the few already rich land owners who get even richer by allowing these things on their land. For example it's reported that Camerons father-in-law gains almost £,1000 per day in profit just from the wind generators he has allowed on his estate. Now that's what you call a windfall!
