milegajo 595
Had rather a brainwave today. I realised that by simply raising what I wished to cook off the bottom of a pan, i could create an oven effect. So i borrowed the steamer tray that goes in the pressure cooker and flipped it over. Voila! Don't laugh, that's pretty clever for me! The meal! Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,217
Two questions. First - have you ever tried an earth oven? Second - That wouldn't be an out of season pheasant would it? I guess it's road kill, or one from your freezer that was shot in season? Quote Link to post
Robbie uk 24
What was it ? Looks very nice. A great one portion meal !! Quote Link to post
milegajo 595
Wild Chicken... No legislation governing the mysterious and fabled 'Wild Chicken'. Very rare birds indeed...seem only to live around where I am.... 2 Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,217
Sounds good to me, i hope it was a male wild chicken, as they can be sitting a nest this time of year and its a shame to kill off future sunday roasts. Have you tried an earth oven though, good fun and work very well? Also, why not build yourself an outdoor overm it's quite easy. 1 Quote Link to post

BenjaminCadd 109
I remeber on tour we used to tip a big old ammo tin on its side and light a fire beneath it, shut the lid and that worked well, i find it good fun finding ways to overcome and adapt! The meal looks good!. Atb Quote Link to post

secretagentmole 1,701
Two questions. First - have you ever tried an earth oven? Second - That wouldn't be an out of season pheasant would it? I guess it's road kill, or one from your freezer that was shot in season? If the pheasant referred to above is attacking planted crops then it's attacks become verminous you know and it is perfectly legal to plug vermin, I know we had a big argument with one of her majesties gamekeepers when we lived in another residence. We informed him to shift his blasted feeders away from privately owned houses if he wished his pheasant numbers to remain high. The baskets were coming in our back garden and were intent on removing every one of the Thompson and Morgan's finest that my father had planted. Hence he bought himself a Super Meteor and spent many a productive evening acquiring pheasants. He did not appreciate this and brought his shotgun out of his car, unfortunately a couple of doors away lived a policeman who got himself round and informed matey boy of the law and threatened to arrest him. The feeders were moved! Edited May 16, 2012 by secretagentmole Quote Link to post
tegater 789
An interesting read this one. I use a man made oven called a Cobb. It is made of aluminium and fueled by charcoal or heat beads. You may have seen them in use on the hairy bikers. I mainly use mine chicken, pheasant and rabbit, but you can use them for anything including making bread / pizzas, and fry ups. They really are a good bit of kit, and great for oven roasting in the field, on the beach etc. I will try and get a pic up. Quote Link to post
