norfolk lurcher what breed makes them

Recommended Posts

i dont know if anyone else has read any of mr.burrells stories of how he "blended" different breeds of dogs into his lines but theres been so many different crosses that his original line must be so diluted as to be all but gone.he berates hancock as a puppy farmer but at least hancock is honest about the stock he sells.i have seen pictures of burrells so called norfolk lurchers and there appears to be a lot of variation in type.my brother had one some years ago which was a good dog,but no better or worse than lots of other lurcher x lurcher bred dogs i have seen.i think the norfolk name tag is a marketing ploy to draw in unsuspecting people.i am not saying his dogs are crap, its just that they are no different to any other good working strain of lurcher x lurcher bred dogs.just my opinion, anyhow.

going back to the title of this topic, i think possibly lots of breeds went into their make up. in times gone by, if someone had a dog that was good at its job, it was put to another dog that was also good at the same job. eventually, especially if there was sight hound blood in the make up they would start to look "typey". its amazing what breeds, when crossed with sighthounds, throw pups that look like "norfolks".i once saw a dog that looked like a perfect example but when i asked the owner how it was bred i was told it was an accidental mating between a labradoodle and a smooth coated lurcher.
