leegreen 2,222
What do you class as "laying up"? Going to sleep? , no I'm not sure The ferret was put in a "single holed back filled by the gardener bury." It was located at two feet under a old Yew hedge, the ground was rock solid and full of roots. After digging approximately 10" it was checked for position and it had moved, to 6' ,it stayed at this point for 3 hours :icon_eek:. I then drove back home to collect a trap, set the trap, contacted the lady of the house who said she would check the earth periodicity and left at around 5.45pm. Now just a note, this ferret was fairly young, last years litter around 8 months and quite fat. We had no phone call and my friend went back at 9.30pm as at 10pm the security gates were on. And there we have it a ferret in the trap. I must say earlier in the day the ferret in question was put in a bury and it stayed down a good 45min without a sighting, This bury was worked with two other more experienced ferrets, two rabbits were bolted and the ferrets showed no more interest. Edited to say; the ferret was found with no blood or fur traces and the original tread was started while we were waiting. Quote Link to post
rob190364 2,594
Might be its age with it still being a young un? try getting one of those loud squeaky dog toys and if you suspect it's having a kip give that a good blast down the hole, should wake it up and with ferrets being nosey f'ckers it'll probably come out to see what the noise is. But if or when they kill the rabbit I expect them to move on and if they don't I'd class that as laying up. Quote Link to post
