Lurcher Dave,

Dates as given by Appleblossom: - 5/6 May for Ballywalter - terrier and lurchers on Sunday 6th May. Rings, racing and onsite car parking located within the main fair in the same area as last year as we believe terrier , lurcher and whippet enthusasts are an important and integral part of the countrysports community and our fairs. Admission £10 Adults, Family £25 programme FREE. AND everyone paying admission at Ballywalter gets a half price admission voucher for Shanes Castle and a half price Admission voucher for the Birr Castle Fair 25/16 August.

Shanes Castle 7/8 July Racing on the 7th and Show on the 8th July. Once again the terrier & lurcher area is located within the main fair AND as this is our 50th Fair like every other competition there are very special prizes throughout event. The prize fund for terriers, whippets & lurchers will be the best ever seen in Ireland.

AND we have extended our Christmas ticket offer to January 31st of: Ticket to Ballywalter and a ticket to Shanes or Birr Castle plus a year's subscription to the Irish Countrysports and Country Life magazine ( hard copy magazine posted out to you four times per year) for just £15 /€20. PM me with your email address for details.

i will be there

We are just finalising our main prize funds and judges for the shows. Good mix of judges from Ireland and UK planned. I believe that we should not only bring in competent judges from the Uk but also encourage our own judges from Ireland. The prize fund for the Shanes Castle event, our 50th Irish Game or country fair, has already surpassed anything ever seen in Ireland and both Ballywalter and Birr will also have enchanced prize funds. All three shows have excellent areas for terriers and lurchers within the fairs and as you can see from this thread we have addressed the recession by offering discounted tickets.

We are still open to new ideas in all the areas including terriers, lurchers and whippets and one section of the fairs that has responded to our suggestion for new ideas and already been expanded greatly are the Fisherman's Villages. Our theme this year is 'The Year of the Salmon & Trout' and we are already looking at more than doubling our angling presence.

what do you get if your terrier wins a race or a show?

We have a meeting of our terrier & lurcher group on Monday but a lot of work has already been done by them and some other terrier and lurcher enthusiasts to make them even better than 2011.

Currently working on final prize structure but will be enhanced at all of our fairs this year. Last year the basic prize for a show class was a good quality trophy and rosette.

The top prize at Shanes Castle for the Master Mc Grath included £500, a Barbour Coat and a painting of the dog. A similar prize structure was in place for the Five Nations Lurcher Championships at Birr Castle Fair. This year there will be a new Directors Challenge for Novice Dog sponsored by my fellow Director Philip Lawton to the tune of €300( so far) plus other prizes.
