The Duncan 802
Hi all, thinking of trying some 20grain bullets in my .17 hmr; just wondering what experiences others have had regarding trajectory, useful range, accuracy/grouping etc. Thanks guys Quote Link to post
tegater 789
Duncan. I tried a few when I first bought the hmr, but decided on sticking with the vmax as it had a slightly flatter trajectory, and at 200 it is only a couple of ft/lb less than the 20grHP, according to research. I just thought that if I was to stick to one bullet then it would be the vmax. I seem to remember the 17gr bucked the wind a little better as well as a result of its slightly faster mv. I would have to check this though. 1 Quote Link to post
paulus 26
when they bought the 20grn out it was not the nylon tipped version as was the 17grn they were marketed as causing less meat damage, i tried a few boxs and found they dropped off quicker, couldnt see any difference in meat damage so i just stuck to the 17grn v max 1 Quote Link to post
The Duncan 802
I must admit that I was surprised how little meat damage there was with the hmr, given what I had been told and had read about them. Certainly no worse than a .22lr, possibly better in some circumstances. So why did they bring out the 20grn bullet? Is it for better penetration? They look like semi-hollow points to me. tegater 789
Bet it wont be long before the 15.5gr lead free bullets start hitting the uk markets. The HP's were supposidly for a controlled expansion. Quote Link to post

Does 'controlled' mean slower?I reckon we need those lighter bullets; its hard to cope with the rainbow trajectory of the 17 grain stuff Quote Link to post

I dont think the trajectory of the 17gr, is that bad at all, and lets face it if you can whack stuff at 200 with an hmr, then the centre fire seems like a piece of cake, out to greater distances, with less calculation and thought being required. DKGPestControl 22
I havn't tried the 20g rounds yet but after reading this i don't think i'll bother! I herd from a friend that he couldn't get them to group as well as the 17g rounds. I saw written above that some body said that meat damage isn't much different to the 22lr!!!!!! They must be using a different 17hmr to me lol Quote Link to post
